Oh god Im sorry for that massive post
Maybe its a good thing that this wont be dark souls as there wont be any hollows
who cares its fun
I never read his books so idk his style but it sounds like he just did world building and history and they took it and ran
Yeah that's what i mean, that's usually the bulk of souls stories too in most cases. Not saying grrm wrote every part of the lore of the lands between, but id say he played a significant part
They dropped footage of the bear fight
Man this dude is like guardian ape on crack
I feel like such a lazy soulsborne player whenever I see big walls of lore text like the last page
I’ve beat DS2, 3, BB, Demons Souls, Sekiro, & I don’t know who tf any characters are, their backstory or what they’re doing besides the bit of spoonfeeding plot with actual cutscenes from Sekiro
Maybe I should dig into it more

Gotta beat the game then watch Vaati Vidya explain the entire story lol

Oh f***! Looking now!!

Vaati does lots of speculation tho. And whats even crazier is whats lost in the japanese -> english translation sometimes.
I would always recommend trying to figure out the story on your own and then go to vaati
My only gripe with From Soft games is that their fantastic lore needs to be more accessible, even if it's just a smidge of storytelling structure. Like I get you don't want to spoon feed your audience, but they make it so tough to connect the dots. My brain's already very occupied with surviving and not dying.
The fact that someone like vaatividya spends hours and hours on lore digging videos to educate millions of lost players is awesome community work, but proves that their storytelling is -prolly purposely- not good.

yeah but idk how, cause i'm glad they don't do exposition dumps through cutscenes or missable dialogue

I feel you but that's just their artistic vision, and what sets them aside from most other devs. Miyazaki's big influence is TEAM ICO who made Shadow Of The Colossus who also handled lore in the same cryptic way
There's a specific audience for this and i know for a fact me and many others prefer the way it is now. I like how the lore is a puzzle because the world is interesting enough to make you wanna do the work to figure it out
Also, i'm sure it will be a bit more clear than in their other games bc they have stated that would be the case numerous times now

These are easily my favorite games and they’re for sure my favorite developers but I 1000% agree with this
Hard disagree on this, everybody should play ds1. It’s aged but the level design is still nearly unparalleled and the combat is still fun, majority of bosses are great, atmosphere is great
Combat has improved in the newer games but not a single fromsoft game can hold a candle to DS1 level design
that post you quoted is from the worst poster on this site so it makes sense they’d have such awful opinions

I feel like there's a big gap between what they currently do and exposition dumping through cut scenes.
They don't have to do Avengers Marvel exposition, I'm talking Denis Villeneuve Blade Runner type exposition.
All easier said than done ofc.
Does elden ring have an early release on steam like ds3 did?
Steam listing it as feb 24th
If I recall correctly ds3 we were able to play it like 6 hours early. 6pm on the day before it launched
Hopefully FromSoft will have the RCE exploit figured out for the PC version.

I've said the same thing on here. They're a bit TOO obscure with their storytelling. If the majority can't figure out the story from actually playing your game, you're doing something wrong. And these aren't minor plot points - it's possible to walk away from Dark Souls/Bloodborne with barely any idea on what the plot to the game is or possibly without even knowing that there is a deeper plot. I played most of DS2 as my first From Soft game and I went through it assuming that there is no plot. They should do more to communicate the story to the player
Never played any of the past games before but definitely getting this
Good luck
