Is melee only still viable in this game? That’s how I play all souls games. Someone give me the tldr for which class to pick for a strength based melee build

I have noticed that some classes start at a higher/lower level. isn't starting at the lowest level more optimal since you can choose how your stats get distributed?

Warp to the bridge lamp where you beat the Cleric Beast, stay left and walk to the other end of the bridge, there'll be some stuff on the left side, it's well worth sticking with the game
