tempted to make this my return to regularly playing video games...

S*** is black magic that pops up every now n then.

I get almost all my games physical n I think Mafia 1 Remake & some other game worked the same way for me iirc. So about 4 to 5 games this has happened with me.

Idk why its not a standard across the board. Why are only a few select games able to be played from the jump if physical like its a PS2? S*** is weird but always a nice surprise when it rarely happens.

your best bet is gunna be looting for good weapons

Idk if you found it but a mace and the forlorn greatsword are easy to find, in the camp coffins onext to the grace you get the horse from

Im using the forlorn rn, i got hella weapons tho its kinda ridiculous

A dagger, two straight sword, forlorn greatsword, great epee rapier, two falchions, dismounter curved greatsword, battle axe (my starter weapon), great axe, club & mace

New to soulsbourne games. Is rolling around and chugging potions the best way to approach combat?

S*** was annoying as hell, at the bottom of the cliff with horse n bigger guy in the tent

Taking time, not rushing into enemies, using all tools to your advantage such as stealth, items, magic, summons etc. and being aware of your surroundings is best way. Some enemies are weaker to different elements n weapons types too, and resist others.

Also engaging enemies one on one instead of groups, drawing attention, and if needed, retreat until their postions reset then come back to finish the fight. They will still have the same health damage you did to them as long as you dont go too far.

Also learn enemy patterns if theyre giving too much trouble.

These games are a tactical game as much as an action one. "Strategic Action Game" is what i think the genre should be called tbh.
