Skyrim n fallout do actually have a lot of copy n pasting in their dungeon designs, its the only real gripe i have with them. There's legit layouts n pathways that are exactly the same, but the atmosphere n exploration is great.
I feel like ER is BOTW mixed with Skyrim with Souls on top. Took the best of all three styles n made a unique n more varied thing.
Only thing it's missing is a comforting village that actually feels like it exists but that wouldn't even work within the context of the story unfortunately
With Elden Ring's success, i imagine it'll be hard for From soft to keep this up. They've had a crazy run from Demons souls to now, but I feel like they gonna have another DS2 moment soon.
I'd love to be proven wrong tho
Gonna be hard to follow this one up for sure

yeah i'm just saying in comparison to the usual fetch quests, errands, and camps as compared to stuff like AC and horizon nowadays
seems only these high rated rpgs handle open world and the sense of exploration really well
It s***s on them in terms of density n design, most open worlds are just a way to go A to B
Botw & Witcher 3 are the closes imo where their open world is more than just traversal n occasionally come across something
Fallout 4 n New Vegas are amazing too but different
Witcher tickled my exploration bone 0%
I think an ER sequel would do great of having part of the map more lived in with a few towns populated with some npcs.
I think that will make a major difference, like some fringe towns/cities that are holding on or hiding.
There's little hints of that in ER but going more with it like a Zelda or a traditional RPG would be great while still having the apocalyptic or post apocalyptic thing going on.
Kinda like again, BOTW or even Fallout 4, also post apoc but there one to three places that are still holding on, you can converse with, buy n do stuff.

I feel like ER also have a lot of copy and pasting with dungeon designs too, guess its kinda inevitable when you have so many dungeons in the game
Although some of the later endgame dungeons were suddenly very different in a good way

Ds2 only happened how it did because miyazaki wasnt the lead (he was working on bb) for it and they had to rush ds2 out the door.
Theyre good as long as they dont over strech theyre limitations, miyazaki controls it and they dont have a strict time schedule.

I just talked about this rn

i don't think so, i don't think this is necessarily an araki/jojo's scenario where they just keep getting better and better at artstyle, world building, and plot/game design, but i don't think they'll have a slump
barring them getting complacent and doing cash grabs, i think they're just gonna be a cemented and consistent dev company that's actually passionate about what they create and release
imo ds3 or sekiro is the worst they've done since this larger, more mainstream level of success. and neither of them were bad, they're both way better than DeS and DS2

Even with all that in mind, expectations for their next game are actually going to be so insane after this one that you have to wonder wtf they are going to do

Theyre not copy n pasted in layout but textures yeah.
Every area zone has main motiff, then you have the few archetypes such as the imps that stick mostly to one design.
But theres dungeons in those games that literally are copied beyond textures with little or no change
I just talked about this rn
I think it can work, but only have one to three like a fallout or botw
Seeing some NPCs casually and realistically interact would go a long way to suspending my disbelief

All good things come to an end one day. Lets just see the next announcement and we‘ll go from there.
I wouldnt be suprised if they stopped making games for me at one point. What I cant see is them making a souls like game that is bad tho ngl. The formular works too well
Even with all that in mind, expectations for their next game are actually going to be so insane after this one that you have to wonder wtf they are going to do
Just bigger n more dense
Really not that insane imo since they keep to the same design language
Maybe more npcs too n a hub area thats similar to ds2 in the physical world that also acts as a traditional town
The day Miyazaki retires is gonna be a sad one
If he's like the other miyazaki then it'll just be one of many many fake outs

Yeah but it's hard to imagine how much more they can add to these games in a way that doesn't impair the experience. If they just stick to the formula then people will say they just release the same game over and over. They gotta keep it fresh somehow
Seeing some NPCs casually and realistically interact would go a long way to suspending my disbelief
yeah i think that would be a big deal in a sequel
keep everything else relatively the same just denser n bigger
they only had one thing that was like that n that was ds2, the hub was a town physically in the world that you also populated with more npcs you meet on your travels n the town would upgrade a bit
i think making a hub or just like two towns in the sequel like that will go a long way

Ppl already been saying that, but its ppl not fans of souls to begin with.
idk why they would have to switch it up majorly, people like Bethesda, Bioware & nintendo keep to mostly the same M.O. with changes n advances here n there.
They'll keep to souls imo but will do different themes like bb n sekiro, like im sure an Armored Core sci-fi mech souls is gonna happen soon.

Still waiting for something to match the apocalyptic dread and underlying sadness of Clock Town
countless NPCs living their complex lives

shut your w**** mouth about the GOATs
actually i hope they have another “DS2 moment” i love that game

I don't know where these developers as well as y'all but I doubt they crafted all this lore and did all this world building for a one-off

ppl forget that ds2 hub (the best hub imo) & the bb cathedral with the hooded dude was basically this
they flirted with the idea n have some systems already in place
an er sequel with this in a more traditional rpg sense would be major, they do have a few spots in er too that also flirt with it like the potboy town
have it as a hub like ds2, or have it as one to three towns of people living on the edge that you can contribute too like ds2 hub, botw n fallout 4
that way we still have the post apocalyptic thing going on
yeah i think that would be a big deal in a sequel

I don’t think the game would benefit from being bigger, actually it might just damage the world since the game being bigger would lead to them needing to add more dungeons in the game which will inevitably lead to this problem where you will have to end up fighting more of the same bosses but maybe 3 of them instead of 2 etc, if you noticed during the later dungeons bosses stopped being unique since there is just no way to make a unique boss for every single dungeon in the game.
If anything keep the scale of the game the same, there can be improvements to other areas of the game, no need to expand it. My playthrough took me 140h, thats more than enough lol

i just mean bigger in a general sense not literal map size
"bigger n better"
