this whole channel heat for elysia mixes n s***. worth a follow since your a big fan
finally saw DJ E actually DJing the E at Atonal this past weekend after 2x of hoping for that and getting the live show instead (also gorgeous, but not quite the real deal for me). def one of the most special sets of the fest
absolute big balls move to turn up to an experimental industrial and club fest, and decide to follow up Lechuga Zafiro b2b Verraco (very lit futuristic Latin deconstructed IDM) first by going for a super quiet volume (fr least loud set of the whole weekend) and just play out some absolutely stunning ballads, r&b and country. not even doing a whole lot of blending at all just straight up playing them out. no beat, just guitar and voice maybe a couple ambient synths (p sure there was a new Embaci track in there at one point). was very patient with that for most of the set, then in the end leaned into subtly very trippy layered andean stuff with the classic cumbia beat but slowed down to a crawl
was an insanely beautiful way to close out the fest for me, a real comedown and spiritual cleanse after a bunch of madness. subverted many of my expectations in a good way. I'd still like to experience a more blend-heavy set as well one day, but it was amazing to get something so stripped back and raw.

Does anyone know who Lashay was? She’s sampled on Omega Plate & Fire Gut, and I remember being able to access the original video where the former’s vocals were taken from some years ago, but I don’t remember how I got there
Saw them perform last night idk brah I think this may be daft punk pt 2
"The entire Western canon of dance music is rooted in the folk music of indigenous peoples, who brought the concept of syncopation to colonial ears and created the rhythms that moved people toward a higher power"
Found this part of the Pitchfork year end write up really fascinating

it's an interesting thought but I think it's straight up false I'm ngl and a bit confusing to read something so historically inaccurate from a major publication. unless I'm interpreting something wrong
fire album though

Ngl I don't know enough about music history to speak on its veracity. Hopefully someone can expand on that

Main point is it's just weirdly disregarding the African diasporic influence which is the actual main root of modern Western dance music. Throughout the USA and Latin America the key blend, especially for dance music, came from the African rhythmic elements. The reality is that indigenous styles of music had a much more limited influence on the development of Western music comparatively. I'd assume by Western dance canon they mean styles like house, techno, disco, funk, jazz. None of which are rooted in the folk music of indigenous peoples and it should be clear where they are actually rooted. Then there's also the important societal and spiritual aspects coming directly from Black American and Afro-Latin American music too.
Syncopated rhythms were present in European music for hundreds of years priors even if the emphasis and approach was a lot different. But again, it's African elements that provided that influence that's the key basis for modern Western dance music.
There's also a lot to a "Western canon of dance music" that predates colonization of the Americas but maybe that's kinda nitpicky, I think I get what they mean.
Indigenous American styles of music have a ton of things to be celebrated for and areas of underrated influence and value. Big part of why this project is so cool. But that Pitchfork blurb just gets it wrong

saw them live and recorded a bit
