What do you expect lol A24 movies is what they consider real cinema and probably haven’t watched anything before 2000 that isn’t heavily referenced in pop culture.
Gen z twitter movie hipsters have changed this industry and its perception for the worse imo. In real time we’re seeing what happened to the music industry seep its way into the film industry but I don’t think anyone is ready to have that discussion yet. 🤷🏽♂️
kinda in awe of how awful this is, Emerald Fennel is such a hack
Doesn’t matter what we think lol all important movie discourse online is ran by gen z blue haired white girls at this point 😂

A lot of people don’t care about “real cinema” and just want movies to entertain them. It’s been that way for decades
Everyone has a movie they love that’s generally considered to be bad either for nostalgia reasons or it resonated with them in a certain way

Absolutely the average person generally watches movies as an escape from their reality. An excuse to get out of the house or turn on the TV, Phone, Tablet or whatever to entertain them and the people around them.
Folks really don't gaf if a movie is critically acclaimed or won a bunch of festivals awards generally
For better or worse internet discourse and social media doesn't really reflect the real world lol

100% cause the same people screaming about how MCU ruining cinema on Twitter are dead silent when their irl friend suggests they go watch Deadpool 3 opening weekend

If it’s been this way for decades then explain why it’s a topic now? I’m clearly talking about people who think just watching whatever A24 movie is out at the theater makes them a cinephile and people around them confirming that thought process. Not talking about the average movie goer.
And I’m def not the only one that feels this way but I forgot ktt is contrarian just for the sake of it lol.

Not sure how anything I said was contrarian
The idea of superior movie taste has been a thing before A24. It’s why certain genres have been looked down upon and not given their respect. You’re looking at a subsection of online movie discourse that definitely does have that holier than thou attitude you mention but for you to say they don’t know real cinema makes it sound like you think of yourself as more of an expert thus no different in attitude than you say they have.
I personally find the whole idea of being or aiming to be a cinephile cringe. What’s even the point? Just be a movie lover and love the movies that connect with you

I think you're vastly overestimating how much social media discourse is effecting films.
Like you said in your previous post itt it's mainly 16 to 22 year old Zoomers on tiktok, and Twitter who gush over A24 movies like they're the best thing ever made and think Euphoria is Breaking Bad/The Wire levels of prestige TV. it's a loud minority but a minority nonetheless.
I don't really take those opinions seriously in the first place they're dumb ass little kids lol.
I'm not trying to be an a****** here btw

And we’re seeing it in real time when people online were saying audiences are killing movie theaters for letting Furiosa and Fall Guy underperform meanwhile Inside Out 2, Deadpool, and Despicable Me are running up the numbers
General audiences are still the main target for what becomes successful and they do not care about what film Twitter tells them to watch
Ngl, although I was iffy on the movie I’m enjoying seeing how big of an impact it’s having online. Whether you hate it, love it, or somewhere in the middle. It’s been a while since I’ve seen a movie cause this much discussion. Especially one not tied to an IP or known figure
This is my only post itt commenting on the quality of the movie so it’s not like I’m arguing to defend it. And I’m not saying you can’t criticize it. Just shouldn’t look down on others for liking this or any movie
Great movies and filmmakers are born from inspiration of worser films all of the time
