Crazy hearing the X influence in this Cam track
I heard a rumor that Cam had this style for a little bit when he was coming up with the Children of the Corn but the Ruff Ryders blowing up forced him to change his style
Cautiously optimistic though
We got Charlie Puth, Skylar Grey, Morgan Wallen, and also NSYNC to show a matured side of Slim Shady
MMLP is more raw and has more stellar production but some of the content didn't age well.
TES had the best replay value and content but the production wasn't as good as his first 2 and it lacked some of the rawness too.
I don't get hung up on the content cuz I look at it as edgy 90s horrorcore s***.
But yea that's my main criticism about TES is that it was a precursor to the Not Afraid s***
Can we all take a moment to appreciate the flows, and the ongoing hibernation of fast rapping shouty choppy angry em
It's not history revision? DMX literally opened up his second album in 1998 rapping about necrophilia lol
Guys like Redman is where Em got his style from but just mixing it with horrorcore
That's not even getting into guys like Big L
"Every moment my style switches up
They say a real man won't hit a girl
Well I ain't real cuz I beat b****es up"
This was a Cam'ron verse in the 90s
"My rude ass, carry three weapons
And I'll give your face a C-section and keep stepping
Who else in a hurry to murk
We kill girls, rape 'em, bury their skirts"
Matter fact Cam'ron had a whole song in the 90s where he was rapping about sick s*** and made an incest joke LMAO

real
I never thought we'd get another fun first single and it's good too?
Nostalgia hit me hard watching the video
Can't wait for the album

So happy he found his groove again, flow wise.

One could argue lose yourself from that same era did that it being his biggest song at time and getting an oscar. Guess sing for moment off tes has a case too
The song seems pretty self aware of how stupid it is and it’s honestly fine. He’s acknowledging he’s in his 50’s and that this is perceived as corny, but he’s having fun with it. Also ya’ll gotta get over the notion of “aging poorly.” Culture isn’t on this linear track. Things come in and out of fashion. Certain sensibilities are corny or “edgy” in one decade and then they’re acceptable again or simply thought about differently in another.
I guess I can appreciate that the song feels like it’s supposed to be corny. Doesn’t make it good tho
A big problem I’ve had with em for the last decade+ is how serious he sounds while also saying goofy/funny bars. It comes off like a desperate comedian trying to make you laugh
Younger Eminem genuinely felt like he didn’t give a f***. Modern Eminem sounds like he desperately does give a f*** but pretends he doesn’t
Ok he ain't lying he kinda is in the bag with this one
not expecting a masterpiece but this is a good start
This isn't about taste though, my OG post was saying that late 90s rappers were edgy and you said I tried to revise history.
If you weren't listening to these guys that's perfectly fine, my whole point was that Em was not the only one saying outta pocket s*** in that era lol
They were not on the corny I hate my mom and GF tip. Plus the dissing pop stars. He had a different level of corniness. The best rappers 'till this day are edgy.
To be honest my older brother was much older than me and we shared the same room. He was a huge rap fan. I would listen to big, Pac, Nas, OutKast, Scarface, Mobb Deep, Busta, Dre, Snoop, Wu, Jay Z. Those guys were not like Em.

Nah I agree. The one two punch of Sing For The Moment / Lose Yourself really did it
Ah-ah-ah

Exactly

A lot of it was him cosplaying Pac while rapping about a pistol whipping incident that was two years old when the album came out.
He was still at his peak in rap ability but content wise I’ll take MMLP any day

If he leaves the rippity rappity choppity off the album completely then it's a huge win

??? Big is one of my favorite rappers but he absolutely be saying the outta line s***?
"I'm shootin' babies — no ifs, ands or maybes
Hit mummy in the tummy if the hooker plays a dummy
Slit the wrist of little sis
After she sucked the d***, I stabbed her brother with the ice pick
Because he wanted me to f*** him from the back
But Smalls don't get down like that
Found your father hidin' in a room, f***ed him with the broom
Slit him down the back and threw salt in the wound
Who you think you're dealin' with?
Anybody step into my path is f***in' feeling it!"
I understand what you gettin at but come on man lmaoooo

I think you misunderstood me or maybe we misunderstood each other... Every great MC says wild s***. That does not make it corny. Em's music in my opinion aged badly and it was too immature. At the time it was fine, but not now.
