My guess is that he did some amoral s*** like just flat out lie. As asap Rocky Said in that interview, people got fired and/or reprimanded because of it and it made the whole industry re look at the contracts to make sure that s*** doesn't happen again.

So they prob thought the deal wasn't what it really was. We have to remember that blonde was hidden even from the people who were making it, solely for that reason. Not just so it won't leak to fans.

Les we forget as well his shady release of nostalgia ultra. Was supposed to be an album but def jam shelved it. Frank finessed and released it as a mixtape. The only reason why he didn't get dropped was because he was wildly successful and it would've been stupid to drop him at that point. The strained relationship with def jam started when he wanted to be a solo artist, so I'm sure he had no qualms playing them

And yeah he essentially stole money from def jam to make blonde quasi-independently. Thus taking all the profit for himself. I bet the label didn't even know about his blonded llc or thought it was for merch. Idk but the only thing I know for sure was that it wasn't a cut and dry deal. Frank most def did some shady s*** in order to pull that off

    F*** def jam

he can’t get sued because he handed them an album at the end of the day and it got him out of his contract. they also don’t own the masters or publishing rights for blonde so he can do as he pleases. also it’d have been a bad look and a waste of time

yeah i know all that im riffing on what bro said before about how technically if he used the label’s money to make any portion of blonde that could’ve cooked him. they probably just couldn’t prove it i guess

"Cost of master recordings: two Nike gym bags full of unmarked bills ..."

From the vinyl reissue liner notes

I thought there was only one endless vinyl drop. I copped mine end of 2017 and arrived in 2018 🤔🤔

The endless being the last def jam release makes no sense

Surely to fulfil their obligations it would actually have tone available om streaming etc

Frank probably signed that contract way before streaming was as dominant as it is now. I'm sure streaming is baked into every contract now but it was a different time back then

Besides, Endless is technically available on streaming as a visual album

It’s not available to buy though. Never seen an album obligation fulfilled by limited vinyl only (from artists site ) and an apple exclusive video.

Weird. Maybe they got a nice slice of the apple deal
