Need the cdq of Witch Doctor to drop immediately, been playing that one in my head since the show
I went to their show in Charlotte on thursday and hung around after the show to see if they’d pop out and hang with the fans but before we all got ushered out, I asked one of the band members if was dropping this week and all I got was a “stay tuned, it’s coming soon”

yeah thought so thanks tho
On a serious note where did the August 29 drop date even come from? Wasn’t it just a random billboard article around the time the tour was announced or shortly after?
Because neither Al nor Erykah have posted anything about august 29 that I know of

so no one that went to these shows is gonna describe what the album sounds like huh. just talking about "need this song in CDQ" ad infinitum

I don’t want to spoil a whole lot for people wanting to be surprised but I was genuinely surprised how funky and bouncy some of the songs sounded (like Witch Doctor). In my opinion, the song they dropped as a single was my least favorite song I heard performed. But I will say the version of the snippet I linked above also sounded way more upbeat and lively with the band playing it versus the more mellow & darkly mixed version that’ll most likely appear on the album. Hopefully seeing them live doesn’t ruin my expectations of the album because there were some instrumentals that the band was playing that took me back to the soundscapes of Baduizm & Mama’s Gun
But with the way Alc beats are typically produced and mixed, idk if songs like Witch Doctor will have that same funky bounce and bass knock that it did live, if any of my rambling makes sense
I remember leaving the concert thinking damn I didn’t know Al could tap into “that” bag like he did
There wasn’t really a whole lot of rapping from what I remember. There was one rap break in one song but it was performed by this girl who I had never seen/heard of before so I don’t know if she was just a placeholder for a bigger feature or if she was actually going to be on the album (I can’t remember her name I’m really sorry, she was really young)
Badu also said that every performance has been different so far, so I’m not sure if that meant the way the band played the songs or just the order of the tracklist. There was one song called Foreclosure where she was just talking her s*** over a smooth backing beat, but it wasn’t rap. It was just a bunch of one liners
Witch Doctor is going to be like the On & On of the album, such a catchy hook

bro THANK YOU
I'm shocked by how little info there's been on the first Erykah project in a decade (and first album in 15) I truly appreciate it. and that does make sense! my hype is back

I’ve never seen an artist debut a new song live where the entire crowd was singing the hook by the time the song was done
