Me with film - I did film for a year towards the end of my HS and our school I was at in the time (I went to many HSs, class of 2014) had a really good and funded film program, like it was the only thing it was really proud of. I learned I just didn't get it. understoor the basics and mechanics of it all and in that way I exceeded in the class that way, but I fell flat to average and even below on other things like scripting or theory or deeper discussion/breakdowns etc.
The only main thing I really enjoyed and really got on a "deeper level" was angles. Which funnily enough helps me a lot to this day in 3D animation work I do here and there for myself and sometimes others.
Music I understand on a basic, mechanical and deep level I make money off of as a side job, but film I was meh towards back then and only have strong a family movie night for all of us when blockbuster was still a thing. Video games I understand deeply too but I have no coding skill of my own, just strictly deep hobby level.
It's why for an example you will never catch me in Film besides once in a blue moon, but I will almost never go into any real detail or depth or deeper emotional n theory talk of it nor discussion or debate.
I rarely watch movies since HS like literally I watch 3 or less new movies a year sometimes I watch none and I watch 5 or less series in a year (new OR OLD) that is regular series' or anime/adult animation. My main form of entertainment is music mainly, video games, YouTube (docs, hobby stuff, comedy, internet s*** and politics), documentaries and an occasional book (I used to read a way more when I was younger) - then sometimes a show and God willing a movie. Then hobby wise it's music, sketch drawing and 3d animation/modeling.
Other hobby things I tried was painting and pottery (and I drew always as a kid) but hit a ceiling due to poor handi coordination, but again it helps and I make up for it in 3D modeling and animation since it's all through the computer. I still rough sketch on my own tho every now and so as mentioned above.

not really, i feel like i become great at everything that truly interests me. if i'm passionate about it then I grind it and get good.
even chill hobbys i find easy to adopt. like reading. i wanted to read a bunch more and i just decided to read during my work breaks which makes it easier. now it's a habit that i dont think too much about. oh break time... time to read.
i recently got this pocket ereader smaller than a phone. so i can read instead of scrolling whenever i have down time

i think music takes like 3-5 years before feelin competent. maybe in 2 yrs u make something you really really love that aligns with your taste, or at least the vision is there.
took me 5 years to feel competent. took me 7 to develop my own sound.
i have a few instruments i barely play. i've been rawdogging adhd my whole life so it can be pretty hard to commit my time to something if it isn't immediately engaging. i feel extra accomplished if i put my mind to something and get good at it
