These are literally every single and accurate film references in After Hours. I've noticed a few sites and fans on Reddit have attempted this (which I'll link below) but have either missed a few significant flicks or plucked some which are visually similar but bear little resemblance to the visuals that have influenced/inspired Abel this era.

Stellar compilation mate. I actually find myself compelled by the cinema inspiration that Abel draws upon nowadays almost as much as the music itself, hope he cracks his way into cinema one day and makes something original

Great spots and nicely presented as always, Thrice. The Save Your Tears x Escape From L.A one is uncanny, man.

Wish I was still as big a cinephile as I once was to actually add the ones I’ve not seen to my repertoire. Bit of a fraud with my avatar, tbh.

He wore his influences too blatantly on his sleeve for this era but i guess that was the purpose hence the whole cinephile branding during the roll-out. He also made it easier in his interviews mentioning most of these references (i.e The Mask / Jacobs Ladder) I hope he can balance originality and inspiration with his upcoming script/first feature film.

In the description it says it was "directed by XO". Not sure what that means exactly

Would love to know who directed this, probably my favorite video of this era so far

I really have to get to watching these movies, I picked "Jacob's Ladder" a while back, and I absolutely loved it!
Love Tim Robbins, and loved Abel's respectful tribute on "Until I Bleed Out"

  • Feb 7, 2023

I keep the "movies that inspired Abel" list on a bookmark. Every now and then I check out a movie.

    Recently I picked Possession (1981)
He even posted a story with this particular screenshot a while back on IG

Absolutely brilliant, gorgeous, intense horror/drama movie! So masterfully executed by everybody involved!
Definitely an instant favourite, one of the most beautiful movies I've ever seen!
