    1. 2011: Meek Mill, Big K.R.I.T., Cyhi the Prynce, Lil Twist, Yelawolf, Fred the Godson, Mac Miller, YG, Lil B, Kendrick Lamar and Diggy Simmons.

    Pros: Produced one of the greatest rappers of all time in Kendrick Lamar and other great artists like Mac Miller, Meek Mill, K.R.I.T and YG.

    Cons: A lot of the guys on this list never lived up to their potential like Cyhi, Diggy and Yelawolf.

    2. 2010: J. Cole, Pill, Nipsey Hussle, Freddie Gibbs, Big Sean, Wiz Khalifa, OJ da Juiceman, Jay Rock, Fashawn and Donnis.

    Pros: Produced a top 3 rapper of the last decade in J. Cole, other big names like Big Sean, Wiz Khalifa and great artists like Freddie Gibbs, Jay Rock and Nipsey.

    Cons: Waka Flocka Flame snub and Fashawn never living up to his potential.

    3. 2016: Lil Uzi Vert, Lil Yachty, Kodak Black, Denzel Curry, G Herbo, Dave East, Lil D***y, Anderson Paak, Desiigner and 21 Savage.

    Pros: Most entertaining and publicized XXL freshman list ever, produced stars like Uzi, 21 and Kodak, as well as great artists like Paak, Denzel, Herbo and Dave East.

    Cons: Desiigner and Yachty becoming disappointments.

    4. 2009: Wale, B.o.B, Charles Hamilton, Asher Roth, Cory Gunz, Blu, Mickey Factz, Ace Hood, Currensy and Kid Cudi.

    Pros: Produced one of the greatest artists of all time in Kid Cudi and solid careers for Wale, Currensy and Charles Hamilton.

    Cons: Drake and Nicki Minaj snubs, B.o.B and Ace Hood not living up to their star potential, Corey Gunz not panning out.

    5. 2013: ScHoolboy Q, Trinidad James, Joey Bada$$, Ab-Soul, Logic, Action Bronson, Kirko Bangz, Travis Scott, Dizzy Wright, Angel Haze and Chief Keef.

    Pros: Produced one of the biggest rappers today in Travis Scott and other great artists like Joey, Action Bronson and Ab-Soul.

    Cons: Logic's fall off, Chief Keef not taking his career seriously, Kirko Bangz and Trinidad James becoming one-hit wonders.

    6. 2019: Comethazine, Tierra Whack, DaBaby, Lil Mosey, Roddy Ricch, YBN Cordae, YK Osiris, Rico Nasty, Gunna, Blueface, and Megan Thee Stallion.

    Pros: DaBaby, Roddy Ricch, Megan and Gunna are all stars. Terra Whack, Rico Nasty and YBN Cordae all have promising careers.

    Cons: Comethazine, YK Orisis and Blueface were awful picks.

    7. 2007: Saigon, Plies, Rich Boy, Gorilla Zoe, Joell Ortiz, Lupe Fiasco, Lil Boosie, Crooked I, Papoose and Young Dro.

    Pros: Produced one of the greatest rappers of all time in Lupe Fiasco, as well as solid careers for Plies and Boosie.

    Cons: Everyone on this list was a solid pick but only the aforementioned artists panned out.

    8. 2014: Chance The Rapper, Rich Homie Quan, Isaiah Rashad, Ty Dolla Sign, Lil Durk, Kevin Gates, Troy Ave, Vic Mensa, Jon Connor, Lil Bibby, Jarren Benton and August Alsina.

    Pros: Isaiah Rashad, Ty Dolla Sign, Chance, Lil Durk, Kevin Gates all made good music and gained solid fan bases.

    Cons: Quan and Vic Mensa falling off.

    9. 2012: Future, Kid Ink, Danny Brown, French Montana, Macklemore, Don Trip, Machine Gun Kelly, Hopsin, Iggy Azalea and Roscoe Dash.

    Pros: Produced two of the best rappers of the last decade in Future and Danny Brown. French Montana also had a good career.

    Cons: Everything else about this list.

    10. 2015: Fetty Wap, Dej Loaf, Raury, Kidd Kidd, OG Maco, Shy Glizzy, K Camp, Vince Staples, Tink and GoldLink.

    Pro: Vince Staples and Goldlink have had a solid careers.

    Con: Fetty Wap, Dej, K Camp, OG Maco, Tink etc all seeming like great picks at the time before falling off.

    11. 2017: Kamaiyah, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, PnB Rock, Playboi Carti, Aminé, Kap G, Kyle, Ugly God, MadeinTYO and XXXTentacion.

    Pros: X, Carti and A Boogie had solid careers.

    Cons: Youngboy snubbed. None of the other picks were bad but it was just not a year with a lot of prospects.

    12. 2018: Ski Mask the Slump God, Lil Pump, Smokepurpp, JID, Stefflon Don, BlocBoy JB, YBN Nahmir, Wifisfuneraland Trippie Redd.

    Pros: Ski Mask; Trippie and JID have had solid careers.

    Cons: Same as 2015 except even worse and Lil Baby snubbed.

    i feel like 2016 is the most “complete” class they’ve ever had. the only misses they had were like dave east and desiigner.

    most covers have like hella duds. and they’ve all gone super down hill since that 2016 class

    Yeah it's weird, it got so much publicity from people s***ting on it and started that whole "old heads vs young guys" s*** only for it to be universally viewed as one of the best covers just a few years later.

    2019 was a borderline great list

    The only misses are YK, Blueface and Comethazine
