That s*** from Evangelion hit me when I needed it most
I just rewatched Evangelion and End of Eva. So good it’s still my favorite anime of all time. I’ve never seen a show that I relate to so much.
My favorite episodes are the last two even tho they make no f***ing sense on the first watch.

Jun 17, 2021TOKYOFROMTHEEASTI know exactly how you feel. The Army has been the only thing I’ve ever been truly proud of and recently I had a total mental breakdown. I was suicidal and was in the hospital for two weeks and given medication.
Now I’m getting medically separated because of my mental issues and it hurts so bad. But at the same time I’m hopeful. Now the world is my oyster and I can do whatever I want.
I’ve found that little moments of solace always find me when I’m at my absolute lowest. I know it will happen for you too. A little glimmer of hope will find you and it will ignite something inside of you.
I hate hearing that you had to experience that man. Mental breakdowns are the absolute worst. S*** feels like you are dying. I’m happy to know you are still alive and are doing better. I’m hoping soon I can get into a place where I am doing better myself. I still have some hope.

I just rewatched Evangelion and End of Eva. So good it’s still my favorite anime of all time. I’ve never seen a show that I relate to so much.
My favorite episodes are the last two even tho they make no f***ing sense on the first watch.
The last two episodes are overhated. They're philosophically fascinating and full of creative animation decisions and shortcuts to get around the budget constraints. If you're into the nuts and bolts of animation and storytelling like I am, they're especially interesting.
EOE is probably a top 5 movie for me but the whole anime is great. The way it deals with trauma and the "hedgehog dilemma" concept of risk/reward inherent in vulnerability surrounding human relationships is very worthwhile. I wish I had watched it when I was a teenager but better late than never. Definitely a show I'll recommend to my daughter when she's that age.

Yeah @BGFX Avoid watching it on Netflix if at all possible. The new subs are garbage and they cleaned up certain aspects of the show, removing some gay subtext and pulling some expletives in EOE. It's just not the same. I watched it on KissAnime.

It's crazy that this show got greenlit in the 90s and even crazier that it became such a worldwide phenomenon, but I'm happy it did. You weren't getting this kind of honesty and introspection back in the day, certainly not in animation. We were a long way from Bojack then.

Just a sidenote: did y’all know that Evangelion pachinko machines alone have made $700 Billion Yen? Evangelion merchandise is literally a billion dollar business just by itself. We don’t realize it here but in Japan, Evangelion is basically like Star Wars.
