This gen sucks a fair amount of ass cause if it didn’t,we wouldn’t be trying to stack up to the greats so much like so many try and do. Enjoy today’s s*** for what it is but remember it’s not comparable to another era cause that era was creating music for a different time at a different place for a different mindset. But at least back then we had acts ahead of their time while acts now are just stuck or trying to bring back s*** nobody missed.

Not talking about any rapper/singer in particular,I’m just talking about the whole industry and fans at this point. You can tell music is an uninteresting position at the moment cause people always looking to the past. Some people say the past is the key too the future tho so...idk maybe the locks f***ed up cause no one has really found that magic and replicated it for the present in a min.

“people compare this generation’s rappers to the last generation’s rappers not because that’s how comparisons work, but because they suck”

what I've learned is that a lot of artist don't have the intuition to tap into their artistry. Sound and lyrics matter. I can pass with watered down lyrical substance, but often times these artist cant even pick a good beat or a beat that's unique. I'm Sick n Tired of the same migo drum patter. This generation is definitely saturated with more garbage than ever before. The ironic part is that the internet is so accessible but its still hard to find good music. The last artist I feel has made an impact on my music listening experience is Yves Tumor and he's not even in the rap category.

Nah comparisons to the past are normal

“Besides my man Ricky, Nas the true ruler is back” - Nas in 2001 comparing himself to Slick Rick one of the greats of the generation before

And I’m sure fans at the time were saying this kind of stuff too

  • Apr 20, 2020

Look at the superstars of the 2000s and the superstars of the 2010s. if you dont see a drop in the average quality then uh...

Dudes now can’t compare themselves to guys back then who had people going to stores physically buying their singles vs someone like Carti dropping something like @me on streaming services then potentially releasing an album tomorrow.

    It’s not comparable

That’s a lil different cause the industry standards were still there and I’m sure that was just a playful boast.

    It’s not comparable

    it is comparable.

    standards are just different now.

nobody gives af about physical album/single sales anymore, and if they do, stay far away from them bc they’ll murder your entire family on some psycho s***.

streaming numbers are the metrics to look at now, but the “album equivalent unit” conversion that says “1500 song streams = 1 album sale” or whatever is a poor unit to go by bc it’s based on payout to the artist (which is minimal & not nearly as much as it should be in the first place). pure streams is really the only metric you should be looking at.

calling them incomparable is pure close-mindedness

Well yeah he’s just saying they’re both #1 of each of their generations

So that’s basically the same idea as if a Travis fan says Travis is Ye’s successor or whatever
