Discussion questions:
1. Does switching up sounds/reinventing your music matter to you? If yes, to what extent? For example, if Future dropped a 20 song project that sounds like songs he forgot to put on DS2, but it's the same quality as DS2, does him not switching up his sound 5 years post DS2 release matter?
2. To what extent dOes your expectations for an artists and your view on their capabilities affect how you view their music? Are you more lenient or harsh with certain artist? For example, if your favorite artist dropped a project thats better than 70% of the genres best but much worse than their best, would that affect your view?
Switching up the sound is important asf cause it keeps the listener interested. After an artist keep using the same sound/style/flows for so long it get boring.
I’m super hard on the artists I f*** with the most. Like Drake is one of my all time favorite rappers and my expectations for his albums be through the roof because I know he have the skill set to craft a perfect album but he choose numbers over quality sometimes. If it’s not how I expect it, I do get turned off.
1) yes, sticking to one sound is boring and lazy
2) you have to adjust your expectations for different artists or you'll end up disapointed most of the time

baisically this
i agree w the other posts in regards to the second point. If i love an artist it’s because of their ability to create something unique that pours my taste and as an artist they have an obligation to progress for their own sake, but they should be trying their hardest
the first point gets iffy. There are some artists who’s established sound i love and can never get over and i feel like these artists, while they progress, should sometimes treat to their fans with something a little more familiar and regular in mixtapes or loosies etc. But at the end of the day their older style is always there to go back to
1. Yes it does matter. If you aren't an MC and are more of an artist it matters more because eventually s*** becomes stale and redundant. It's impossible to look at your post and really think future is giving another DS2. Part of the reason DS2 is loved is because of hype. DS2 wasnt better than 56 nights or monster. HOF might be as good as DS2 but nostalgia always places it higher. So if i remove nostalgia from ds2 its probably not that good and neither is HOF
2. Yeah i have tougher standards on legends and elite artists/rappers. A 7 for drake isnt special

I like that 1st point you made about how nostalgia and hype play into album appreciation

Your first point is spot on. That’s something a lot of us don’t even think about it.
