In my many years of listening to music I’ve realized that having expectations for projects is almost always a negative.
Now when your expectations do line up with what the album actually it’s magic, it’s so incredible it’s almost worth having them.
In general though, I’d say it’s always a massive negative. Luv Is Rage 2 is one of the biggest projects I dislike solely off what I thought it coulda been based on snippets and teased music over what we got. But I didn’t hold any expectations for Eternal Atake and even though so much great music was previewed before the album that didn’t make the cut, it was still a very positive experience.
I’d say in general, if music isn’t previewed or teased directly before the announced drop, you should hold no hope it’ll make the cut.
Do you feel the same ? Are expectations worth having (real ones about specific sounds or tracks, not “is it good” type expectations) or something we should try to forgo?
having expectations and hype leading up to an album is fun but people let it ruin albums for them i dont get it
TDKR Batman
GTA V
TLOP
All of them grew on me eventually but the exaggerated high expectations ruined the initial experience.

gta v actually the other way round, the world building and level of detail were mind-blowing at the time, like beyond my wildest dreams... back then I thought of it as a top 3 game oat, now it's not even a top 3 gta for me, it looks so much worse in hindsight when you realize how bad the plot/writing actually is... character switching got old really fast and all of them were poorly written anyways, still a great game but it's definitely flawed
