So I have a 4 TB Seagate drive with a lot of important things on it (mostly drum kits and sounds) which was working fine up until recently. Whenever I try to use or transfer certain files from it the drive ends up crashing every single one of my USB ports simultaneously. I bought a replacement drive but can’t even properly transfer my files due to this. Is there something I can do on my computer to fix this or should I send it a data recovery center?

try error checking and defragmentation (properties > tools > check/optimize)

if it's readable it might be a bad sector that crashes the disk and that can be solved with the above, but not guaranteed

tried 2 scan but it got stuck on “scanning” the meter never moved

and then i tried 2 optimize but the drive crashed a quarter of the way thru 😵‍💫
