whats the theme of the album

ok so i spent like an hour or two figuring this out while listening this morning by reading the tales and rly listening to the lyrics and taking in mind what hes said in the interviews

Basically, its based on his time blowing up and a 3 month time in LA right, and the narrative is inspired by dante's inferno structure of moving through hell into the pit of purgatory to meet the devil and find heaven. In this instance LA is hell and his father's home in essex is heaven. The tales are an accompanying like emotional re interpretation of the events and the idea and they serve as cryptic lynchian-like story that can give context. He's muslim, and hes tocuhed on this a bit before on music and me and such.

He explicitly in the tales says he views fame as a descent rather than a rise, and dante enters hell in dante's inferno by taking a staircase down.

All eyes on me is him basically arriving in hell and the industry at the same time its all a double entendre. Playlist is him entrenched in the sin of treachery, the "bae innocent angel a w**** now" is about him. thats why he talks about virginity so much, its this diea of him being corrupted.
Creep and like a virgin are him straying further into this distortion of his morals and character until jungle affair.

51 ttashpel pony ave is clearly LUST similar to how kendrick talked ab it, Hard candy is gluttony and pure manic spending, Rewind and essex girls are the flipside of that. thats why it keeps switching between lighter and darker songs and the lyrics get more and more full of biblical references and depravity

night blooming jasmine is him in love with it and wrong relief is liek the absolute pits in complete paranoia and self destruction. Fire & Ice is that long because its the turning point of the story of breaking out of purgatory as in the loop of mania and depression caused by his indulgence in the spoils of his work. Kiss of death - angel is him connecting back with his roots, coming home, as the sound gets lighter way more melodic and thats why the last track angel is a breakup song right its not a literal breakup with a girl. Etna is him in haven. The short film and some o the tales are like a end credits/prologue thing much like a mulholland drive esque thing and everything pre ch5 in the tales is like the opening credits. theres also a lot of lyrical callbacks that hold significance esp for the specific biblical references

Craziest thing is how the themes aren’t detached from the sonics like how most artists of his generation do… this stuff is literally embedded into the lyrics, the beats, and everything in between.

Wonderfully executed album that really breaks the lame cycle of overly-ambitious album concepts only talked about in interviews that have nothing to do with the music

exactly. as he's said on the zane lowe interview the mixing and frequencies r very intentional.

Terrified - like a virgin are so actual bass heavy like the frequency wise as it is hell, purgatory you get 808s but they are way more treble heavy 808s and his voice on something like hard candy is mixed that way because hes in that manic part o the purgatory.

Hence why it keeps switching between these light melodies with dark elements and absolute despair filled beats. Also why fire & ice the woman is hard to understand and its long and the backing track is scary as hell. Cuz

    A. its a horror movie album and hes in the transition out of purgatory into the fire state if u look up fire and ice significance in dante's inferno

    B. Its clearly an angel talking to him

    Listen to me
    This had to happen
This was never going to unfold gently
    Do not be afraid
Fate is not a fragile ornament someone can snatch from your hands
It is branded on you, beneath your satin skin like inheritance"

They have come to escort you now
Across the black water, toward the farther shore
    Through fire, through ice
Through every exquisite trial designed to separate the living from the truly awake
    Lift your head and walk
Because what waits for you beyond this passage is not comfort
    It is transfiguration"

and why the last quarter sounds a lot more like his old sound. Because hes getting closer to home. Hence the amount of high frequency sounds and more calm mixing and harmonies.

angel is back to being bassy because its his last goodbye. The title means delayed angel when translate btw, its like a breakup song with the hedonism of fame. Etna has no 808s nothing just the angel again and synths and guitar he played in his home.

So here we are, a little older, a little wiser
And slightly embarrassed about the theatrics
But alive, which, all things considered is not a bad outcome, right?
    Anyways, goodbye and goodnight
We were in that room for too long

it really does remind me of some lynchian s*** in musical form lol its very show dont tell

yeah this best attempt at a rage concept album so far. dudes like nettspend, osamason, and opium especially never really go past the aesthetic. the music is always some bullshit which is why im happy mink decided to take a chance and do something familiar yet different

the way summertime 06 was a post punk influenced take on west coast blog era gangsta rap (hence why vince used joy division as the inspo for the cover), terrified vs something like psykotic feels very much like comparing the cure or joy division to black flag or minor threat. or like, Cryptopsy to Electric wizard maybe more apt comparison. If rage draws parallels to punk or slam this is like post punk or stoner metal. taking the anger, self expression, abrasiveness, loudness, etc and instead making something more abstract conceptual slow and spacey out of it.

Like osamason plays B movie slashers and s*** in the studio while hes making psykotic, while mink instead is inspired by mulholland drive. very different kinds of horror movies that go for different things

very interested to see what this influences cuz of that

we been doing that on dis page

the reason why mans r citing mulholland drive is cuz the trailer is homage to it and uses all the like iconic lynch shots like the lamp and environments etc and he said he took inspo from it and dante's inferno for the narrative. And mink said the album as a whole is meant to be like a horror film.

also watch that movie its amazing !!

In Inerno, Dante encounters those who are being punished for their actions on Earth. Justly. His personal trials and tribulations are besides the point. He doesn't reach heaven because he "went through" hell. People go to heaven who lived virtuously on Earth. He is just on a guided tour.

for sure good clarification, what i mean is the structure of the divine comedy is inspired in the structure of the album the

    Inerno - Purgatorio - Paradiso

idea and some of the themes, not necessarily that dante personal trials and tribulations are why hes there or they have to do with why he travels between all 3 realms. Cuz at the end of the day its inspired by dante's inferno in ways for his own story
