I dunno if I'm getting too sappy here, but with online culture particularly around 2012 you see this real sense of hope, like stuff from the internet was bleeding into IRL and people thought it would lead to a paradigm shift where the more egalitarian approach to online success would let people who wouldn't normally stand a chance achieve mainstream success, I dunno the internet just seems happier then in general, like old screenshots of tumblr posts don't seem to have the big sense of doom that crept in since 2016 in them

Rambling but, we thought the mainstream would become more internet but the internet became more mainstream, I think the Paul brothers are the best example of it, they would be laughed out of 2012 YouTube, they'd reek too much of the cool kids' table, that's just not what you'd go online for

Odd Future were the perfect ideal of what should have happened, they had a TV show! Loiter Squad was a real example of weird online niche stuff being given an unfiltered mainstream outlet, but no one really got an opportunity like that since
