yup. I love it.
It’s crazy to me how Welles would’ve been as much a leader in New Hollywood as he was in Old Hollywood if he found the right American studios to play ball

John Huston managed it
possibly the only one

he kinda was tbh. Citizen Kane is basically a character study and he never shyed away from darkness (albeit the producers did.) as well as making links to societal/politically charged surroundings (Citizen Kane, Magnificent Ambersons, The Stranger, Touch of Evil). To be fair, such an approach can be found in many other Old Hollywood directors' work such as Elia Kazan, Frank Capra, John Ford, Billy Wilder etc.. When he had work with lower budget in Europe he had to find a way through plenty of montages to reproduce his vibrant style like in Mr. Arkadin. He always went with the times or was actually a bit ahead (deep focus belongs to Mizoguchi or his cameraperson though. Then again, he used in way more complex ways. Touch of Evil has imo by far the most impressive spatial composition of any film I've seen.). However, not to his idea of innovating cinematic technique but rather due to external circumstances. The French New Wave, which in turn influenced New Hollywood were massively influenced by Welles among others and he was one of the key figures they've built the auteur theory around. The Other Side of the Wind is imo the culmination of his latter style.

Completely agree. Have you written a review of the film?

No but I might when I'm rewatching it. Tbh I don't know when that will happen. Actually, I wanted to wait for it being released on Blu-Ray but that seems to take some time ( wellesnet.com/other-wind-blu-ray-hopes ). Also, it's such an assault on the senses I definitely need a rewatch before I can write something substantial about it. The placement on my decade list was a bit presumptous having seen it twice. The other films on that list were easier to digest for me tbh (with Happy End being a weird exception. I think I watched that film about 12 times now. Kind of a weird obsession I don't get myself.).
The Other Side of the Wind is definitely a film that needs and deserves more dissection. In fact, I'm still a bit baffled that it has been somewhat ignored since months after it's completion. Aside from Welles scholars like Joseph McBride of course. Perhaps due to the reception being relatively mixed (it has 78% on metacritics. I know their weighting is s***.).
Thinking about buying death stranding at the end of week when i get paid. Was always interested in it and kinda just forgot about it, but ive recently been playing a couple streams of it in the background at home during my off days and really wanting to play it now haha

The best films of the 2010s list has been counted and ranked. Will not post until 1/1/2021 if anyone wants to edit their submission list.
Taylor really dropping a folklore film on Disney+ when top philosophy scholars haven't made any progress deciphering the album's lyrics yet. She just took a hard left turn and added a couple more decades of research to their careers like it was nothing

I think I was close to finishing the first playthrough but I stopped for some indeterminate reason. My gaming habits are better now. Should get back into it but I might have to take it from the top honestly. Forgot most of the story.

Yeah im surprised at how i dont have the urge to speed through dialogue/skip scenes in this game so far. Im actually interested in the story for a change haha.
But the first time i played when i died at the final boss of the prologue, the saw the credits and realized i had to start all the way at the beginning again... I was like "man f*** this!" And didnt touch it again for a couple months lol. I had already been frustrated with Gungeon and Dead Souls at the time, so i decided to try Nier cause i figured it wouldnt be as frustrating

that prologue really killed my desire to play that game lmao

Have you not played past it yet?
You def should. Switch the difficulty to easy and then after the prologue just switch it back to normal/hard
I tried it on hard first and got my ass handed to me. But after i found out that you can change the difficulty at any moment from the pause menu, with no trophy/progress penalties, I was much more open to try again. And im glad i did cause im only on like the 4th main story quest and it's already getting really good
