Yeah he was the goat
thank god Cash didn't follow in him and Jimmie Rodgers footsteps.... too bad Gram did
the white country music world throws alotta shade at the jazz/rock/rap worlds for their d*** use but they were losing their goats to it before anybody

not much on a Toussaint kick yet more just looking where to really start. besides some random nice comp "New Orleans Funk: New Orleans - The Original Sound of Funk 1960-75" ive been peeping where i think hes all over it
I always liked Rock of Ages but still never really go back to it compared to the studio albums. i think im taking it over the Last Waltz though
which book is that?

Already told you, Mystery Train by Greil Marcus. Gf got me the fancy Folio edition for my hbd
so nice. Apparently widely considered the greatest book on rock and roll
the Elvis chapter plumbed the depths of his soul

Did you check some early stuff first?
Also which phase you got for The Who's zenith? Impossible to decide between brit invasion, psych pop and stadium giant iterations

nope im just doing a quick drive by of a bunch of country legends' most popular albums just to get a taste, and then see where i want to go from there
its a waay tougher choice than most for the 'oo but I feel like Live at Leeds is their best release, but only the CD version not the shorter og LP release. their best and most realized studio album, especially for the peak of Pete's creativity and writing is Quadrophenia I think. even though I barely prefer it over the 1965 and 1967 stuff. Who Sell Out is kinda close and my #2 album but I definitely couldnt call it the peak all things considered. But rearranging of their early stuff removing some of the lesser songs and adding non-album ones could result in an album that would be their absolute best.
peak as a band = live 1970-1973
Pete's peak = Quadrophenia
Peak release = Live at Leeds expanded CD
Peak canonical release = Quadrophenia
Peak song = Baba O Riley
my favorite style = 1965
yeah its actually impossible lol. but Ill just go with Live at Leeds, especially since taking into account that they were the best live force of the brit invasion bands and that power was a huge part of their significance
one thing for sure is that its definitely not Tommy, which so many boomers mystifyingly think
btw @Elric i think Kinks might have passed stones as my #2 of the big 4 brit invasion bands.
also been having some doubts about Exile being the peak
