the other day i woke up thinking it was 6:00pm already and i slept through the whole day. then i realized i was still drunk and it was 6am and id only slept for an hour

and then i went to work and i came home shaking and then to stop shaking i had a drink and then i drank and the same thing happened again and then again and its not as if im trying to bring things to an end but in a sense i am just waiting for an end and id be just as ok if it came tomorrow as in 40 years and i do get the sense that if it takes 40 more years ill end in some protracted pain so i could say in fact that id be happier if it came tomorrow

Way better mixing/less crowd noise than Bo's Beach Party

Trying to rank my British Invasion top 20 of '64 difficult because the Beatles were still way ahead of everyone in complexity and production but I also want to craft a thematically sound list of garage rock classics. beeduls are almost out of place on there

remind me again how much post-1963 Fats you've heard? might dl a few of the main singles from the ABC era to see how good it is, think im about done digesting this Imperial era 5 hour long compilation for now (prob gonna take years to fully marinate though)

just his '64 stuff which is pretty good but apparently the label switch was no good for his recording routine and he lost his band leader and co-writer David Bartholomew and so thats pretty much considered the end of his classic era im sure theres still decent stuff coming but i dont have my hopes up

'64 seems like the last year all the 50s dudes really had classics other than Elvis and maybe Jerry Lee in country mode

yeah, assuming youre talking rock-ish stuff ofc instead of the obviously less youth-oriented other genres. how is post-1964 Ray though? read some good stuff about Crying Time

been on Duke Ellington's Far East Suite from 1967 lately which has gotta be the best thing I've heard from someone as old as 68 a few Johnny Cash late highlights i've heard up there too i guess. Time Out of Mind first listen incoming this week

Yeah of course Cash had a late career resurgence but '64 really the end of an era not just because of how far all the young artists would take it in '65 but because none of the og's would have hits in their classic style again (afaict)

Ray had a few amazing songs here and there around '66 like I Don't Need No Doctor, Let's Go Get Stoned and stunner Eleanor Rigby cover but his groundbreaking album days were over

Orbison had the same situation as Fats in '65 too apparently I assume him and Bo and Ricky will still have deep cuts but the bronze age is definitely over.

And oh s*** I don't want to hype it up too much but TOOM is a gargantuan masterpiece. You didn't dig Rough And Rowdy that much right? Not having hears TOOM first explains why
