Hollow Knight is just 2D Dark Souls pretty much. I think you'd like it.

Hollow Knight felt more linear and the combat is pretty simple. Plus I loved the art style. However I did stop playing after a certain point. I don't enjoy looking at Dark Souls games when I watch them and that type of atmosphere not for me. I would probably quit pretty quickly

Hollow Knight and Ori were post-breakup things to keep my mind elsewhere and now that time has healed all wounds I find myself incredibly bored with video games again
