2-3 hours is miniscule time to learn them, need like 100 times that then you can be a lowest level acolyte

Yeah I'm not counting the s***loads of listens I did to all their 60s studio stuff I did back in the day with in my normal process

I recognize that the dead are unique and that is why my process was unsuccessful and will continue to take recs from you. Tbh I've never kept any in rotation so maybe send me a crystalline zenith peak apex performance and I'll stay on it.

grateful dead is always a frustrating band even for a lot of heads because some of the vocals are just lame as hell or occasionally excruciating. like half the songs (more shorter ones) are Bob Weir songs, whose voice ranges from dead average to really bad. during a lot of their peak years they had a f***ing godawful backing vocalist that literally makes me say "shut the f*** up" to myself out lout sometimes when i listen. then their later period keyboard/vocalist guy had an absolutely horrendous constipated voice that fit horrible

if you never marinated on it then thats definitely the place to start, because its their first live album + key historical live album + most psychedelic period + literally their peak period, or at least one of them

but honestly just listen to the Dark Star from that album and stay on it for a while instead of the whole double album, since youre looking for a singular zenith apex performance. The most historically significant version of their widely agreed greatest jam vehicle, so it's the closest thing they have to a single definitive track tbh. and knowing the way you like to listen you might be able to appreciate it more in that context rather than some obscure version

if you do, I recommend to NOT listen to Turn On Your Love Light, the endless vocal stupid rambling will irritate the s*** out of you on acid and kill your vibe most likely i can appreciate it now for its jam segments but absolutely hated it at first
