think you already showed me those first 3 at some point tbh but ill peep again along with the others in a little bit

lowkey thinking i should check out a solo album tbh since the idea of him with multiple other musicians and bass(!) sounds possibly more appealing

im not the biggest meg white hater or anything but her + nobody is not exactly the most compelling rhythm section. to me a lot of their songs just sound like a good guitar tone + a few solid guitar ideas with meh everything else. i dont appreciate their rootsy ones much either.

if jack whites voice magically started sounding amazing to me then it would definitely take everything up a notch

man i dunno maybe you know too much now and its too late to appreciate them like i did. had never heard anything like this, especially with that intro to throw you off kilter masterpiece

    they aint no dead though

(despite a few novelty disasters like their abomination Hey Jude attempt and some extremely lukewarm Dylan renditions)

it’s a good one, you might dig it

The Immaculate Conception from a Cadillac

It was a cool flick, idk bout Palme d'Or winner but it was original. The sound was A1 tho.

I never peeped Raw after seeing it around for years, might give it a go one of these days.

beefheart cover is good for sure but mostly cuz its a beefheart song i feel. best song here

loretta lynn cover does absolutely nothing for me. i guess the song itself seems fine enough country but i cant find anything to appreciate in the actual performance

wayfaring stranger cover probably one of the better vocals i can remember hearing from him, decent. ofc doesnt compare to the classic HP Lovecraft psych cover of that song

honey we cant... - again there's just like nothing for me to really grab on to here. i guess lyric is slightly entertaining

cash grab.. - some very minimal level cool guitar sound i guess but nothing else

realized that a lot of their songs kinda just sound like demos to me. like a super simple drum beat and a decent guitar idea someone laid down with a vocal. then im just left like...that's it? like halfway through Honey We Can't... when the drums come in with that simple beat halfway through it just sounds so empty. that drum part honestly kinda Shaggs-esque for me (and thats not a good thing)

hope im not breaking your heart with this lol

the meatier ones like Black Math, Ball and Biscuit, The Union Forever. definitely not the little attempts at being cutesey like We're Going to Be Friends or folkier/countryish songs with less cool electric guitar

Yeah I'm always posting random loosies at you that basically are demos and I find them extremely rewarding jack a tremendous writer and I love his sense of humour on the goofy songs. Just assume you already know all the god level rock jams.

The way he references modern technology on this archaic sounding country folk thing gives it a charming anachronistic quality. Plus that warped rockabilly solo :datass: if you aren't sold by the toothless part I give up.

    not terrible

its the overused tired criticism and it feels lame to say it but the more i listen the more i just think the drums suck ass on so many of the songs

ive even seen a few contrarians call meg white one of the best rock drummers of all time. if thats all time great rock drumming then i dont know a thing about rock music

Best technical drummer? Obviously not but she hits it hard and there's a primal energy to her playing that compliments the music perfectly. I love her drumming.

i definitely appreciate drummers that aren't technical, ones who hit it hard, and ones who have primal energy

outside of the meatier songs i mentioned like Black Math I just don't think she compliments it well

its like Moe Tucker (who I like) if she was closer to the Helen Wiggin end of the spectrum
