Was he trying to do homages to French cinéma or did he just go in a wildly different direction?

It wasn't trying to be french new wavey or anything but there was some Tati in there I guess. it was just such rapid fire narration and editing and such brief performances I couldn't find any gravitational center to keep me remotely on this things orbit

Subtitles will help but it's still something offputting about it for me

Chalamet was mid yet again get this kid outta here

Chamalat is an aesthetic prop, he doesn’t need to give a good performance in a Wes Anderson film. He was born to just rock that hair style in black & white in one of Anderson’s flicks.

You’re a Godard stan, right? How was this different than how his films are all over the place?

That’s another film where he didn’t need to be “good”. He just needs to be a competent vessel for the archetype he’s embodying. Goth Mark Hamill is all you need really.

I said in my review that him and Zendaya aren’t people, they’re androgynous child like dolls that are being used to facilitate the story. This feels like a negative in the moment but when I think on how it’s handled it ultimately works.

ive only seen godard up to 1967 but theres literally nothing to compare to this from what ive seen. maybe a slight reference in a dance scene but nothing about the way its shot afaict.

this is just wes doing wes off his meds
