Head At The Door is great but it probably is their first album chronologically where I actually want to skip a song. Screw is a mess.
my faves
been on Disintegration for nearly 3 years so i could progress on to Wish in real time pretty quick here

My playlists for artists are basically anything listenable cause I like throwing them on shuffle so maybe even the mid songs will grow on me. I used to just do my favorites but then I’d realize that a song I didn’t listen to enough because of that ended up becoming one of my favorites.

I have a whole other playlist for every song they have that is good (same system for all my playlists) but these are the biggest standouts for me
Only start to narrow down a playlist after I've marinated on the entire album for quite a while as you know
Wish I was fan back when they first released A Forest
gigantic 180 into dark brooding goth mode
I have a massive playlist that's basically everyone I listen to's entire discog that I play on shuffle. That's what I have on most these days unless I'm listening to something new.
One day Ill listen to some Cure albums that arent P***ography or Disintegration
I did jam Three Imaginary Boys once but I dont remember it
this one is up your alley

Yeah this is cool. It's just the Friday I'm In Love stuff that makes my brain hurt.

I hope you have more songs from Disintegration on there

disintegration seems more of a unit than merely a collection of songs with some standouts

Push is pretty sweet, almost made the cut
disintegration seems more of a unit than merely a collection of songs with some standouts
true but every single song on there objectively kicks the s*** out of Lovecats and Dressing Up
Wish is very nice btw i think youll appreciate it after the long chrono digestion. great execution of their lighter ethereal style attempted earlier but combined with some of the learnings of Disintegration

Getting to the end of the album like

Yeah that Cold and Funeral Party
just like heaven and disint title track
Yeah that Cold and Funeral Party
what is your general approach for digesting lyrics for the albums you listen to? do you read through them as you listen? (on the first listen?) do you set aside separate time to read through and a***yze?
just trying to understand the perspective of the diehard Dylanophile
ngl i have barely even paid attention to any of the lyrics on Time Out of Mind yet. gonna watch no direction home soon btw

My first digestion was so long ago I can hardly recall what I thought of Gates Of Eden and It's Alright Ma
didn't have internet but did have a bunch of books which gave me a good general gist of his literary references and s***
His later stuff is more of a vibe with an old souls lifetime of wisdom of references flowing out and I rarely don't pick up what he's putting down at this phase
ngl being a film and history nerd helps fill out some of the holes you probably aren't getting
I absolutely do not read the lyrics as I go through first listen
or even 20th. as Lester bangs and I think fats domino said it's funner to figure it out yourself. If I'm stumped for years or there's an especially cryptic passage that's way outta my league I might cheat eventually.

yeah maybe i need to adjust my listening approach because right now i can get to the 20th listen of an album and still have no idea what the lyrics are. i dont just naturally grasp them as I listen and i'm definitely not the type to just start naturally singing along. and even with all my listens to Dylan's main 3 60s albums and having read the lyrics I still don't think I have a good grasp on them or truly appreciate them
this s*** is kinda seeming like some homework for a literature class ngl
“I’ve never really gotten into him. His voice is too nasal. And it’s like literature music. Quite boring three-chord structures serve as a bed for words. I’m too much of a music lover for that to happen.”
was Bjork right about him???
