Yo broski I was threw on a couple GnR songs and was thinking I can't think of a band that was arguably the biggest in the 80's sound so out of place once it hit the 90's. Like they still were popular when Use Your Illusion dropped but that super clean production and the ballads don't fit with the decade. They broke up at the perfect time imo.

Did any of the hugest bands of the 80's successfully translate to the '90s except for Depeche and Metallica? Feel like 80s music was more of its time than any other decade (well maybe 60s too) and people were pretty f***in over it but the 90s

Broski I really don't know haha like Metallica in the 90's also went through the same thing. They did way better than GnR would have but they also seemed out of place while going more commercial. The change in the soundscape of rock was drastic yo

the "grunge takes over" thing was no lie tbh

even britpop (the second biggest movement) was a reaction to it

i think it was in early mid 70s interviews before Bowie had proved he could evolve when Keef was talking s***.

was funny cause Mark Ronson is to Keef what Keef was to Chuck Berry and Keef was always upset about how poorly Chuck treated him

oh he definitely alludes to people in songs which is totally fine if you keep it on wax

or if youre lou reed or jerry lee lewis or some badass where being an a****** is part of your persona

but seeing hippie era social conscious type of songwriter dudes talking s*** on each other is grossing me out

did he really steal their thunder in the 70s tho

not trying to hate on bowie or anything but its totally different lanes and feel like bowie wasnt a commercial behemoth like that. stones still bigger than him every year until he released Let's Dance

if anyone stole Stones thunder its gotta be the massive 70s bands in their wake
