"not 10/10"
To the album that raised the bar to what a 10 could be
and arguably hasn't been topped

Yea im right with ya on that
for a band like The Stooges to take rock n roll that far is something amazing. Like a maelstrom fire, improvised riffs, a saxophone and Iggy drinking gasoline
We will fall is clear filler and not in the same universe as anything off fun house
I shouldn't have to say this
10 minute filler, which is hypnotic dark and soothing af.

I don't disagree but do you really think there is any sort of epic intent behind it? You can basically feel Iggy rolling his eyes at having to do this hippie bullshit
could be completely wrong

Worth mentioning that Iggy's parents were both teachers and he was way more literate than he let on but yes they took it as far as you can go
@fuk_an_ad_lib did you get to the part of Lester's book yet where he tries to get Lou Reed to talk s*** on Bowie and Lou is like
"man has come out with some amazing songs but that Iggy Pop however is a brain-dead dipshit"
I thought they were pals
youre really not gonna like it :kendricklaff:
obv Sister Ray gets a spot but this list usually no more than cd length so it had to go

@HeyFella I know you're not quick to track down the deep cuts but have you heard the ones I have on here like Lisa Says and Stephanie Says and those three bonus tracks on Loaded?
"not 10/10"

Funny we’re talking about VU considering a channel I watch just uploaded a ranking of their discography.

The balls of the one dude putting Squeeze over White Light lol. He explains pretty well why I don’t connect with it but even I wouldn’t rank it like that. I much prefer VU’s more moody somber music compared to their noisier stuff. The older I get the less patience I have for aimless experimentation. I want something refined, focused, and affecting. That’s why I like Doug Yule’s contributions. He sort of reels things in without removing their subversiveness.
Bowie mix of raw power should be burned. F*** that s***
it’s not great but it gives it a whole different vibe which is interesting

Yeah we seem to have the same favorites
nope, the lead guitar (solos) is so much louder than everything else that it devastates you in the Bowie mix in a good way. Iggy later mix tries to devastate you with pure loudness which only dilutes the effect overall after I already became super familiar with the album. also give me the earlier s***tier Iggy og rough mix over the '97 Iggy mix tbqh
ik i said it before but also don't like a few artistic decisions made for Iggy's later mix which undermine the mysteriousness of Gimme Danger and Penetration (quieter acoustic guitar and celeste coming in way earlier and louder, respectively)
might seem like a weird statement but although its one of the most powerful rock albums I don't think pure volume/loudness encapsulates its power, its not grindcore or something. still has a ton of subtler twisted mystery that is essential.
@Elric you ever (re-)digest the Bowie mix of Raw Power I sent you a while ago on here?
will give it another listen but doubt i'll change my mind.
most glorified 8/10 mix in history

how is the experimentation "aimless" though

I didn’t mean in their case, just generally.

i mean im perfectly accepting of that the fact that the Bowie mix is also terrible. every mix of the album is terrible

People complaining about the mix when really they got the most menacing sounding acoustic guitars of all time on there. Gimme Danger sounds fine.

and some of the most menacing and unhinged electrics up to the point too

SF Sorrow actually had some spooky acoustics too
both white light and vu are better than the first album but that’s not saying much
WLWH has The Gift and VU has Murder Mystery so no
