You live on the FRG or GDR
never remember
FRG but I'm planning to move to Leipzig (former GDR) in the next few years.

Eastern Berlin at least had a much cooler vibe than west
I never looked into but it seems most the krautrock bands were in the FRG
not much rocking out in the GDR I imagine?

idk why but Eastern Berlin and Leipzig are def cool cities. I have no idea why tbh.
As for Krautrock, rock music wasn't nowhere near as accessible in the Soviet union. there was actually a lot of black market sales going on back then because the authorities thought of it as "Western ideologized music".

Oh yeah I've heard a ton of stories of smuggling Deep Purple and Slade records and Levi's jeans into Soviet occupied eastern Europe like they were gold
just never occurred to me none of those bands were from GDR
my gf's crusty old Czech dad was an elite climber that got a job teaching the goddamn Russian military how to climb Czech mountains properly which also allowed him and a buddy a chance to escape to the west through the mountains when they weren't looking :elon:
I think that the Left in general is having a stroke over NATO not being the invader here. Sure, NATO went farther to the East but there was no reason to start a war in Ukraine. In fact, it's heavily backfiring on Putin economically. I guess it's also because the old imperial wars are not as profitable as they were. See China for example. Their form of imperialism is very different and mostly economically and contractually (look at what happened to Montenegro for example. then again you have Uyghurs but I think that's a different case altogether.). Not saying that the world would be save from wars in the future (on the contrary actually) but that old model just isn't working anymore.
Ukraine wants to be part of NATO and the EU. Why? Because they are more economically prosperous and better armed. Russia is an old imperialistic power that is basically losing it's status. This is a very pragmatic and materialistic decision.
Also, f*** it. Russia is an IMPERIALISTIC power. There is no difference here just because they're losing their status. They are just as terrible and waged a war in Ukraine. Putin is responsible for these deaths.
The solution would obviously the liberation of the entire working class when it comes to leftist theory but right now it's also just important to acknowledge the current situation this world is in. That won't happen so fast. The contradictions that would lead to such an event are simply not strong enough. In fact, I partially buy into Varoufakis' theory that capitalism is evolving into some sort of Tech-Feudalism ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_jW0xUmUaUc ).
Also, I'm not for arming. On the contry, new peace treaties, economic dependencies and demilitarization on all sides for this situation in particular to stop the killing asap.
I’m not sure I can disagree with the heart of what you’re saying here but I do think you’re downplaying the expansion of NATO and how our coup in the Ukraine has influenced their decision to join it. It’s not as simple as Russia is a power in decline and we’re now the ones that are more strategically, economically, and militarily more convenient to ally with.
my point is she didn’t leave any scene lmfao the album is 1.5 years old
you sound so f***ing dumb sometimes, at least have a smidge of self awareness about it
Charli has always had her mainstream pop albums to go along with her experimental ones, this just so happens to be one of the former. saying she left any kind of scene just isn’t correct
you’re like a child dude

NATO didn't attack. A***ysis and political action/stance are two different things. Like I don't disagree with the a***ysis but this doesn't make it okay for Putin to invade and kill people. He played poorly to say the least.

I don’t get the point in talking about what is or isn’t okay. We’re not talking about ethics. We’re talking about geopolitics. I’m not arguing it was okay for Russia to do what they did. I’m saying it was inevitable based on the domino effect of everything leading up to it. The U.S. acting like this is some unprecedented horror is absurd. You now have polls showing people cheering on war in response to this. The media propaganda machine is going hard. People who couldn’t even point out Ukraine on a map are talking about their leader like he’s Iron Man.

I'm talking about ethics here because it's implied by almost all statements I've seen from Leftists online. The way one frames their statement automatically generates an ethical view. Especially if you look at their demands that mostly say "NATO bad" beneath the surface.
A***ysis and political action/stance are two different things. It's really difficult to find a good way to actually articulate a well-reasoned and to-the-point stance here imo.
Not denying the Propaganda machine tho. That's ridiculous

Well I’m certainly not one of those leftists who are doing “NATO bad, Putin good”. I was just trying to highlight that this situation is more complicated than it’s being made out to be by western media. Largely I agree with your a***ysis of things.

didn't think you were one of those. I'm just thinking about finding a good way to counter a lot of what I'm seeing in Leftist circles atm.
I feel like I'm in Bizzarro world atm when it comes to many groups. I guess that there is also some sort of Pro-Russia bias because they think they're the successor of the Soviet Union or something, which is utterly ridiculous in itself.

Yeah a lot of my leftist friends in online circles don’t even view them as an imperialist power. They’re arguing they’re a regional power compared to our global power. Also constantly bringing up the fighting that’s been going on in the Donbas as well as the Minsk agreement which I agree shouldn’t be ignored when discussing this but it’s still not justification.
Listening to Siren by Roxy Music. Overlooked record of theirs. Honesty they don’t have a bad album. The last track sounds really ahead of its time, like from the 90’s. I could totally see Suede or Pulp put that out.
