Wasnt crazy about the Lighthouse. The visuals and vibe of it were but then most of the movie was just Willem Dafoe and Pattinson yelling at each other. Didnt feel much of anything by the end. The mermaid was hot though.

I like the movie but I think making Pattinson’s true motivation clearer would’ve helped

Yeah I guess Eggers like the first guy to credibly strike the same tone Lighthouse being low-key hilarious as well

You've said you don't mean him when you throw shade at à24 all the time right?

Aster is overrated, even though I love Hereditary. I feel like if he just shuts up and lets Phoenix have a say, it should be decent at least.

Aster horror ok but come and go like most the rest for me. Joaquin fallin off and proving he need a goat like Pol or Spike to hit that fascinating tier.

I just figured he was in some sort of hell and that Dafoe's character was a reflection of him. Like an endless Dante's Inferno cycle.

Lighthouse is still lightyears ahead of anything that dweeb Ari Aster has done though

I got more of a greek mythology vibe (cyclops seagull) mixed with ye olde maritime folklore vibe (siren mermaid temptress, j*** serpent) about two lost souls losing their minds in isolation (from guilt and shame)

Yeah it's a mix of all those things. The second half of the movie is what made me jump to the personal hell thing.

Again the vibe was cool. Kinda reminded me of Vampyr. But it didnt stick the landing and in the end I was left with cinematic blue balls.

I’ve come around on Aster somewhat. I still don’t really like Hereditary that much but I think Midsommar is fun.

Joaquin falling off is a bit of a stretch broski, I mean Joker wasn't anything special to me but for a mainstream flick it certainly made an impact. He's not in that Fassbender category haha

He needs to jump back with James Gray and make a lowkey flick

Fassbender's got The Killer with David Fincher coming up so that'll be a win

I thought there were in purgatory/Hell and DaFoe was testing to see where Pats should go

I apologize for ever being critical of anyone in this thread because y’all are leagues more intelligent and interesting people compared to everyone else on this site. I’d drink a beer with every single one of you and have a fun conversation. You might as well be talking to walls with the rest of the drones on here.

I really don’t get the people who don’t understand why that would be the most natural thing for him to say in that moment. Call it hacky or whatever but for him in that particular situation it’s like an impulsive comedic reaction.

Because I've been on enough "twisted odysseys through a city's underworld" myself to know the sheltered film nerds version when I see it. I've said this before.
