close but doors has slightly more x factor also compounded by the fact that i tripped on acid listening to it in the doors stomping ground area
wouldnt that also be Loves stomping ground?

yes just not quite as close and Love probably taking #1 anyway
Again I haven’t heard it in 6 years. That’s just how I remembered it.
deleted that post immediately but yeah second half might be a little off structurally the more I think about it
My favorite psych stuff leaned more into the baroque direction. I don’t recall that record really fitting in with the particular psych I was digging. I will revisit it soon and get back to you.
they were more baroque on Atom Heart Mother but a little but maybe
Piper and the first clutch of singles are one of the foundation's of psych between the long spacey explorations and the concise whimsical nostalgic fantasy nuggets and its all perfect
nobody else was conjuring soundscapes quite like that yet
Syd solo has a vastly different approach and appeal than that early Floyd stuff imo so I don't mind the far inferior production. Less on the soundscapes and more on the solitary atmosphere.

In my mind I just remember it being a bit all over the place, like just a bunch of young dudes messing around and seeing what sticks. I should have marinated on it as Elric likes to say.

how close would you put Safe As Milk? as exquisite and cinematic and surreal as Forever Changes is nothing approaches the epic scuzziness and creativity of Beefheart guitars and vocals with this dizzying tempo shifts or whatever. leave it to a band of sober musicians with insane discipline to make the best psych rekkid of the year. nothing else from that year keeps growing in my estimation like it. its my Elevators debut for '67

I remember you saying Madcap Laughs was like In The Aeroplane Over the Sea on heroin instead of alcohol lol

can only think like 5 albums from that era on Pipers level. def need a marinate.

It’s weird I like Trout Mask Replica way more than Safe As Milk

i wish so bad that Trout Mask hit even a tiny fraction as hard as Safe as Milk. Ry Cooder missing is detrimental for me.

Safe as Milk top 3 for zig zag alone
Yes but you don't f*** with 1967-68 psych like Fidel does
Yeah, that kinda thing is extremely hit or miss for me
Ziiiggg Zaaaagg
baw baw-baw baw 🎵
I think some of y’all appreciate elements of music that I don’t consider much. I’m a very simplistic person when I think about it more.
