Thankfully I’ve never really had them overplayed for me. I barely ever listened to the radio growing up.

Not just radio but life in general. Movies, parties etc.

He’s kinda going for a Talking Heads style on this somewhat. Not the talk singing but the weird vocal inflections. It’s unique for him.

I don’t remember where I heard this but I definitely heard it. From what I remember he said he had heard the Talking Heads and considered them the future of music and felt their stuff was basic by comparison so he tried to inject a bit of that into what he was doing on the album.

Henry talking about his parents is always depressing. No wonder the guy had to spend his 20s screaming his head off.

takes an L for oversimplifying We're Only In It for the Money as a Sgt Pepper parody album. same tier as people who look at Satanic Majesties artwork and call the album a Sgt Pepper ripoff

Sterling wasn't benefitting from the universe of hindsight you've enjoyed at that point. Was just being an edgy youngster.

I know you’re asking him but I think it’s awesome. One of my favorite Rolling Stones albums.

ngl I haven't heard Tusk in full yet

I listened about 3/4 through while doing list stuff last night. I can only compare it to Rumours since I haven't heard any of the early stuff

have not been able to marinate Only In It for the Money even a bit. A bit impenetrable to me. But it's far from a Pepper parody

Wish it was just the image in the middle. The blue border is a bit much. Like this would have went hard.

i like the border but was probably better in the LP era vs seeing the small image on a screen or a CD

them in the costumes with a different background would've been better

yeah it took me a few years to really get into it tbh. still a few annoyings moments that grate on even me.

best parts for me are his catchiest melodies ever on some of those tracks, especially Let's Make the Water Turn Black, Take Your Clothes Off When You Dance, Mom & Dad. Side B is better than side A tbh

this super early 1961 instrumental Take Your Clothes Off.. really brings out the jazz aspect and how great the melody is

Zappa lowkey one of the best melodic geniuses oat. Freak Out! will almost make my top 10 just cause every song, no matter how tongue in cheek or not, is so f***ing catchy. (Then there's the closing track).
