I don't know the songs are great but it's just something missing sonically or whatever they don't quite pop. Instruments sound a little one dimensional and flat on the headphones soundstage or whatever they call it lol.

and yeah I don't think the production was doing favors to the true power of Kaukonen and especially Casady. got a bit better as they went but its kinda tragic how neutered they managed to make possibly the most powerful bassist around sound

Trip to Saturn

Blount left college because, he claimed, he had a visionary experience as a college student that had a major, long-term influence on him. In 1936 or 1937, in the midst of deep religious concentration, Sun Ra claimed that a bright light appeared around him, and, as he later said:

My whole body changed into something else. I could see through myself. And I went up... I wasn't in human form... I landed on a planet that I identified as Saturn... they teleported me and I was down on a stage with them. They wanted to talk with me. They had one little antenna on each ear. A little antenna over each eye. They talked to me. They told me to stop attending college because there was going to be great trouble in schools... the world was going into complete chaos... I would speak through music, and the world would listen. That's what they told me.

Here is how the 70s layout became what it was. I knew from doing the 80s black and white, that I wanted to do something very colourful as a contrast for the 70s. Work started in January, pretty much figured it out by February. (I fine tuned it very subtlety until literally just before starting the pictures.) and some other layout ideas I ultimately scrapped

just read some nice passages about the ridiculousness of the time half the Allmans simultaneously joined half Fleetwood Mac for about an hour of peak Grateful Dead jams likely the top 3 rock jamming forces in 1970 all with homes thousands of miles apart

also nice anecdote about how intimidated they were to play right after Miles Davis during his B****es Brew era and how Garcia was the only one brave enough to go talk to Miles and he actually broke through his legendary meanness

for a few years I wasn't super impressed with the canonical Bless Its Pointed Little Head live album they put out back then and didnt think they were an outstanding live act. i think that one just suffered a little from track selection although its still quite good

yup plus joined by Danny Kirwan, Mick Fleetwood (sometimes just dancing), Gregg Allman, Butch Trucks and even Berry Oakley switched out for Lesh on bass for a bit. even saw something online saying Arthur Lee joined on percussion (Love was on the bill opening) but Lesh's book didn't mention it so idk

the recording of it isn't exactly sterling though from what i remember, gonna peep some of it again now
