Yeah of course it would have been a big deal and even though I said I don’t care if he died I don’t condone assassinations. I just don’t think it would have ever happened. The people who went there were dummies. They weren’t prepared revolutionaries or competent fascist guns.

I understand how it makes sense fam but shouldn't we be striving for an actual person to lead you guys through these insanely hard times and not cause such strife. The best leaders unite all sides and he's trying his best to do the opposite these are facts.

Things weren't getting better with actual politicians tho broski haha Of course Trump is just a figurehead but the fact he was actually elected and won over an "established" American politician speaks volumes on how the norm turned people off to such a degree that we'll role the dice on a celebrity.

And to top it off it took a global pandemic, race riots, insanely biased media coverage, and everything else you can think of to cause him to lose the election.. And he still got the 2nd most votes in election histroy.

Yes because sociocultural consensus is not an organic process. Most people have a short window where their authentic beliefs untainted by outside context are allowed to be expressed until the weight of the culture hits them. I also wasn’t putting leftists under one umbrella. I’m talking about specific people who I watched shift their perspective.

Seems to me the fact that everyone down there that was a quietly racist all of a sudden became loudly racist tells me he got a lot of those votes by doing those historically sound propeganda techniques dictators use. There was even a perceptible surge of racism up in Canada. We got a lot of rednecks.

i dont think "2nd most votes in history" really means much cuz of the general population increase. and its not an outlier like when Reagan beat the s*** out of that Mondale guy or something lol

But its not just about "racists" and "rednecks" like he only won Alabama and Mississippi.. He won the working class who the Dems clearly don't have an interest in. If a black voted for Trump they get labeled a coon or sellouts. Other minorities face the same backlash. I had a moment when I was at work and almost all the Hispanics mentioned they voted for Trump, like I thought they were joking on me haha. It was a lot of people more than just rednecks

I was a little more chill about this until recently when I watched this documentary which reminded me how scary the parallels are. And why do you ignore the fact that Trump's always talking up dictators? He literally admires them and tried to stage a coup what about this is funny to you

Elric can't separate the absurd comedy of Trump and his presidency. He should absolutely be in prison for the rest of his life but let's not pretend his Twitter wasn't a goldmine for hilarity, even if it was also really sad most of the time

We’re just gonna be talking past each other cause I don’t even think of it in the same terms as you. The situation in Germany is dramatically different. Their economic situation post World War I was incredibly unique. It is a totally different set of circumstances. The reason Trump not having a real belief system was a positive to me was because he couldn’t really be effective at anything he cares about, cause he didn’t care about anything. Hitler cared. Hitler believed deeply what he thought. He fought in the war. He felt the same crushing feelings people in his country felt. He had a twisted passion in him to transform the country into something different and to climb out of its hole. Trump has none of that. He was a draft dodger. He only cared about what made him money. He was a non passionate person. He has no coherent ideology. That makes him less of a threat. At the end of the day policy wise he was a standard boring Republican who occasionally gave a bone to the populists. I don’t think he started a coup intentionally, there was no coup. It was a bunch of idiots in a federal building doing nothing of note. They had no power, they had no leverage over the state, even if they did something horrible they would have been quickly arrested and put in prison. Trump had to give over power. There is nothing he could do with the built in systems we have as a country. It is a childish fantasy to believe him and his cronies wanted to literally take over the government and that it was actually possible for them to accomplish it.
