Still gave it a heart some good elements but alot of it aggressively didn't work for me. The visions of Indian chiefs, mimicking their tribal chants, sitting amongst the kids at the end like "this is the strangest life I've ever seen" I know this doesn't matter as much to you but nobody that was there thought it was representative of what Jim was actually like and didnt capture his spirit. Felt way more life a parody to me then it did when I was young. You told me recently you never watch live footage of bands and after watching a bunch of live Doors footage

The first two Tim Hardin albums are a crash course in folk songwriting. Definitely check them out.

Today I had a lot of errands to run and cleaning to do around the apartment, so I just left music on all day. It was nice. 11 albums in total! First two were new to me:

Roc Marciano - The Elephant Man’s Bones: Pimpire Edition (excellent!)
Teen Suicide - Honeybee Table at the Butterfly Feast (not a big Sam Ray guy but this was pretty impressive, if inconsistent)
Crying - Beyond the Fleeting Gales
Kero Kero Bonito - Time n Place
    Magdalena Bay - Mercurial World
Empty Country - Empty Country (one of my favorite albums I feel like nobody has heard)
Neil Young & Crazy Horse - Rust Never Sleeps
    Grizzly Bear - Veckatimest
Daniel Rossen - You Belong There
Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago
Robyn Hitchcock - I Often Dream of Trains

You get a pretty good idea of my tastes over the course of the day when I don't give a s*** and am just leaving albums on

Off the top of my head, I think the most albums I've ever heard in a day is 15. That was when I was like 18 and had no major responsibilities.

Hell yeah man I've been trying to put people on that Empty Country album for ages. Absolutely love D'Agostino as a songwriter and vocalist and the whole thing has a real warm, comfy feel without sacrificing any of his weird edges, love it.

That Magdalena Bay album has loads of jams as well

I'm just trying to figute why the Jackson C Clark album sounds so unique to you when alot of folk sounded like that in the mid 60s. Yeah you would like those albums.

I’ve heard many 60’s folk, just not those two albums you recommended. It sounds unique to plenty of people.

Love em. I'm getting tickets to their show here in November.

Falling Into Me, Cool & Collected, Happy New Year, Levitation, Hall of Mirrors, such a good band.

One of the best albums of 2016 (which is saying a lot) and we never got a followup

I saw them open for Los Campesinos like 5 years ago, they seemed like really chill people. I hope we get more from them.

Without exaggeration, Marian is one of my favorite songs of all time. The whole album is excellent, but that song is the best Tom Petty song he never got around to writing. The hook, the storytelling, the dreamy cinematic atmosphere, it's so f***ing good.

The whole album means a lot to me because I heard it for the first time cleaning out my old apartment during lockdown before moving out of my hood and all those memories came flooding back at once while that emotionally raw music was playing. I wasn't ready.

Also: I was blasting Southern Cloud while watching my two year old daughter playing and she started dancing and swaying to it and I started crying hahaha she always complains about my music because it's not Baby Shark but she likes that alt country vibe when I have it on.

Last I checked they were hitting the nostalgia button with a Hello Sadness reissue and tour.

I feel like they're always having money problems and have to work nine to five jobs.

Oh yeah Marian is a masterpiece, I also really like the character based songs like Swim and Becca. He's just a masterful songwriter init, one of the most perennially underrated of the last 15 years and I hope somewhere down the line his work is given the reappraisal it deserves. Lose is maybe a top 10 album of all time for me (think I had it 2nd in my 2010s list)

When I saw the man behind Cymbals Eat Guitars was steering the ship I was like OK let's go, great band, very underrated, but Empty Country is something else. I want one of these songs to end up in a movie/on prestige television so people can rediscover it.
