Yo Brett might have f***ed up but smh at anyone taking away from his on field football career like he wasn't a good QB. The man played with heart and will always be my fav player/actor
Nah f*** him
Heard this one yet? One of the top ten psych albums for me. Not a random generic sound like you said, Gary Usher was Brian Wilson's childhood friend and early co-songwriter and he teamed up with Curt Boettcher (producer of a handful of the best late 60s albums by the Byrds etc) to create a studio project they called Sagittarius. Did a tremendous job following Brians footsteps for baroque studio experimentation and even partially did what Smile was supposed to do in 1967.

Just realized I put Smiley Smile on my list instead of Pet Sounds at 49. Definitely should have been Pet Sounds lol.
Will give some of this a listen now as I start my workout
definitely not a workout album lol
try 13th Floor Elevators second album Easter Everywhere. More refined than the debut might hit.

That's why I said to start. When I get past the initial little warmup I always throw on Rap or metal (lately). This is very pretty so far though
"Glass"
That subtle sitar in the back
Tbh I was gonna post but figured it might sound the most cliched to you

Why lol
Why lol
The sitar and the way you said all random psych bands sound the same lol

Oh
Oh
Because even by 1967 the use of sitar was sort of cliched. Used to pretty tremendous and distinct effect here though.

I mean I'm sure there are some lesser psych bands that to you, would sound more cliched, even if you disagree with my statement overall. And I doubt you'd rec the bands that you would maybe think slightly less of. This album is pretty cool though

Re-falling in love of all things El-P. Kinda dismissed RTJ after 2 but after some more listens, I'm convinced El-P is probably among the most consistent rappers/producers ever. Whatever shortcomings that he may have as a rapper is balanced by Killer Mike on RTJ and his own production on all his work (El-P is probably a top 10 (maybe 5) hip-hop producer ever but this thread ain't ready for that conversation.
Consistency from front to back IMO
FunCrusher Plus - 7.5/10
Cold Vein - 9/10
Fantastic Damage - 7.5/10
I'll Sleep When You're Dead - 7.5/10
Cancer 4 Cure - 7.5/10
RAP Music - 7.5/10
RTJ - 7.5/10
RTJ 2 - 8/10
RTJ 3 - 8/10
RTJ 4 - 8/10

I guess I’m realizing one of my issues with Piper is that Syd doesn’t really have the melodic sensibilities for that kind of psych music. He’s much better for me solo because he’s lost and deranged sounding and it works when he’s intimately the focus but less so when there’s a band of ambitious musicians around him trying to tap into a style. Matilda Mother is the one where it all kinda lines up for me. Then I’ll listen to something like this and realize I like it more than most of Piper.

I still really like Piper, it made my list after all, but it just doesn’t fully connect with me the way it seems to with a lot of you.
