I read another interview with an old German granny who said she just thought Hitler was intense and weird, but generally did good things for Germany. It wasnt until her Jewish neighbors started disappearing and the war started that they realized "oh this guy is insane" but by then it was too late.

Yeah seeing the lack of standards would've been awesome but you also gotta think about the fact that this was the #2 show on the entire network. AMC could literally give Breaking Bad and Mad Men anything they wanted because they had no one else worthy of support. If either was on HBO, they would have to fight True Blood and Game of Thrones for support.
