It's grown on me a bit tbh. Lift Off is not great bit not as bad as "Who Gon Stop Me". The production on "Lift Off" is so extravagant that I forget about the dumbass lyrics... Rappers hear watch the Throne, they gon be pissed off
i wish they got diplo to do a better drop or something smh
... would be Acid Rap
Favourite Song one of the most annoying songs, I swear
I’m mostly over exaggerating with the “modern rappers are dumb” s***. I’m just having a little fun at 5am lol

that mixtape was a hit with all the dweebs who liked Logic. Under Pressure is also overrated.

I’m less harsh than you tbh. I don’t think there’s any bad song on any Kanye album until “Ye”. I just think WTT is overall bloated, badly sequenced, and bland.
It’s a solid list, I’ll give you that. As much as I like Future and Young Thug the idea that they’re like unique artists with ideas is very funny. I’m picturing Future thinking about how he’s going to structure his album lol
And to come back to this, most Thug projects from 2014-17 are beautufully structured, as are Future's from the same set of years (notably the great HNDRXX)

Sounds like you're more harsh than me cause you think the 2010s is almost void of any notable music

That’s not what I said. I said I don’t personally find it as exciting as other decades. That’s it.

I'm paraphrasing to fit my argumentative agenda

it was just a prank, bro
I will say a lot of the indie stuff in the first half of the decade definitely has worked its way into a lot of peoples essential canon. I have a huge nostalgia for discovering stuff like Beach House. You’ll see Bloom’s album cover on all sorts of favorite album lists right next to like classic 70’s and 80’s records.
Correct. I think a lot of it was just luck. Right time and right place, plus they both have really unique voices and they’ll do some cool things with their vocal inflections over complimentary production. Chuck Berry was a talented guitarist in the 50’s, it’s totally different.
What they're doing is a lot more deliberate than you're giving them credit for. Blending hip hop with a rich form of vocal expression that goes way way back. Thugger doing the same thing as this guy.

i know you don't love Thugger but you recognize what makes him so unique

!https://youtu.be/1CPJwt14d5EI think this is the go to guilty white hip-hop critic way of intellectualizing it. I think it’s the rap equivalent to poptimism. Guys who are so embarrassed for only listening to hipster rap like MF Doom and Aesop Rock, they have to overcorrect with this sort of a***ysis.

This is a theory I concocted within the last 5 minutes so you could be right

rap equivalent to poptimism extends all the way into that rage rap bs with Yeat
I don't think I'm one of those guys though
Didn’t say you were. I think you’re sincere. I’m just saying it’s the same argument.

!https://youtu.be/1CPJwt14d5EFunny you brought that up cause Thug sounded like those dancehall guys to me when he goes crazy with his voice

Pure Beenie Man influence

That’s absurd. If you don’t think there was a conscious effort by music critics to try and overcorrect for past dismissals of that kind of rap in favor of more technical conscious hip-hop than you’re delusional.

I don't pay as much attention to this type of thing as you guys do
