@RVI That new Alvvays album is really good but also kinda disappointing. I can’t imagine being a fan who waited 5 years. There’s no bad songs on it really but the way the lead vocals are mixed throughout most of it feels off. She’s usually the through line you grasp onto, but she’s drowned out. The production is compelling but it usually supports her melodically, not overwhelming her to point she just comes across like an added texture. My favorite track is Bored In Bristol for getting around that “problem”.

I felt that way a little at first but after like 2 listens I realized I was originally listening to the worse quality leaked version that made that problem worse lol. so with the real version I get what youre talking about but it hasn't been bothering me as much, I think the guitars that are noisy and almost drowning her out are amazing for the most part. kinda feels like just a modern rock production thing too where it just feels too loud sometimes, everything drowning out everything else and probably would've sounded better if it came out 15 years ago. i'm definitely liking it more than the debut but not sure how it compares to Antisocialites yet

i only became a fan of them like ~2 years ago though so i didn't have the whole wait. i might have been disappointed if they just made the exact same album again, and its just enough of a change in style where it feels natural and still has their whole signature sound

My other big issue is just how short everything is. Just when you’re starting to grab onto something it cuts out abruptly. That modern production style does bug me a bit. They did shift producers for this record. There’s like a classic mid 80’s Cure quality to some of these track and if they were produced in a way that felt a bit more of that era then I think they would come off stronger. There’s enough sonically that distinguishes it to not be taken as just a basic throwback record if they did that. Their first album I think just has immediately stronger songs. Tracks like Party Police and Atop A Cake will stick with me much more than anything on this.

It's not amazing but it's just regular deadpeg exaggeration. We all know Exile on Main St. is the worst album he's ever heard

  • I'm confident that whatever 5 hour mixtape Lil B released this year was amazing, though.

I will say I’ve been enjoying more 2010’s records lately. Also my 60’s list should be done soon. I just want to listen to the Revolver remix when that comes out and see if I need to swap it with Sgt Pepper. After that’s it’s done.

speaking of such, @basedspirit I know you're not huge on the 60s so I don't know how confident of a list you can make for it. Rise did 35 and I accepted it so if you get close to that I'll gladly accept it. I do fully expect 100% participation for whatever I decide the max is for 2010s Redux

I re-read Lou Reed’s piece on Yeezus and he’s really the only person who seemed to totally connect with what Kanye is going through mentally and artistically.

Yall think ye might have schizophrenia? When I was in the mental health ward, the more dangerous (to themselves and others) were usually kept away in other rooms but you could hear them spouting random nonsense and rambling bullshit.

One of the more functional schizophrenics reminds me of ye's behavior post Pablo (especially recently). He was allowed to converse and join activities but would often be put in a sort of timeout if he started wilin. Alot of the stuff he said to me made no coherent sense and he would sometimes join a conversation with some of us and share random, jarring, incoherent thoughts and run-on nonsequitur ramblings. The one specific one that I remember was his deadset mindset that the hospital faculty were out to get him. He had frequent shouting and cursing fits at the nurses and it was very sad to witness. I am not even close to a doctor but Kanye reminds me of that guy and what I've witnessed from what may be a highly functional schizophrenic. The difference here being that Kanye's power and influence has helped him enable himself to be surrounded by yes men and refuse possible further help. I read that in an unaired portion of that Tucker interview, Kanye said that there were (child???) actors spying on his children and trying to influence their behavior to sexualize themselves as they grow up???? ... that kinda paranoia specifically made me think of the hospital guy. Really sad stuff

(Not giving ye any passes By any means at all for the strong anti-semitism but I believe he's down a mental rabbit hole of paranoia, schizophrenia and extremism that could have been brewing over time with a worsening/debilitating mental state. He's about as textbook as it gets with being irresponsible with his own mental health.)

Yeah he comes off totally like a manic depressive schizophrenic.
