@HeyFella I'm tired of the "comedy movies are dead" conversation unless people want to specify they are talking about screwball comedies

Mainstream comedies are dead. It’s not even debatable.

Romantic comedies are still around, dude. The Lost City made almost 200 mil at the box office and had good reviews all around.

That’s not what any normal person on the surface of this planet means by “comedy”. I guess Thor: Love & Thunder is a comedy too by this standard.

Dude, you literally said "mainstream comedy" with no caveat to it whatsoever. And now you're saying something as equally specific with this "normal people" business. Austin Powers and Legally Blonde were both "mainstream comedies". I don't know where you're trying to drive this duscussion.

I think you’re just being intentionally obtuse here and you know exactly what I and most people mean when they say comedies are dead.

they are talking about the end of good screwball comedies, which was my original point. Ask "anyone" what the last funny movie that came out was and they'll probably say 22 Jump Street, Neighbors, The Nice Guys or Game Night. Are there any points you want to make?

I’m not gonna debate semantics over what is or isn’t a comedy at 2am. Hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving. Goodnight.

I'm not trying to debate. Just interested in a discussion. The responses don't even have to be immediate.

We both know the reasons comedy movies are in a drought atm social media shortening attention spans and raising performative morality, the death of the mid-budget movie and the usurpation of screwball comedy by the MCU in the middle of Phase 2 but you said it wasn't debatable that mainstream comedy is dead. I'm curious if you mean that there hasn't been a "big funny movie" like Girls Trip or Good Boys that commanded attention in the zeitgeist or if it was some other reason you were thinking of.
