explains the initial praise to a boring ass album (by a tremendous band)
Would have been a good post for this thread but I guess y'all are allergic

I never fw Tommy like that. 1/3 of the songs are inconsequential and you can't even hear Keith's drums on there so f*** it

What’s your review of #9?
What’s your review of #9?
a few amazing songs but a few that don't really hit for me like Pink Thing and Hold Me My Daddy. still very creative as always but I think the albums above it do a better job of either focusing the creativity into a whole or just making a consistently catchy album. first half is definitely better than the second imo
The Mayor of Simpleton might be in their top 5 songs

I thought Gordon lived in one of the Nordic countries

Very true. It sounds so much better.
Live at Leeds deluxe definitely one of the best live albums I've ever heard. That version of A Quick One

It's just too much. Too many songs, too busy, too overproduced, but it has patches of brilliance and overall it's clearly a high effort release. The magic just isn't quite there as consistently as Skylarking.

theyre a prog band now too

Which albums are “sometimes”?
the sometimes was spread across all of the albums and i havent listened in eons
how far did you get
deep dive on first half of the discography then respectable dabble on most the second half. not for me really. the kinks comparisons they get make little sense to me. by the time i found a few early 80s gems is liked i was just annoyed with the band in genera and gave up on them.

even the proto-britpopness wasnt connecting with you?
too quirky?

yeah they sound like they could smoke any other band on earth at that point

too quirky?
yeah the quirkiness and jerky melodies just got super annoying
