NoirPersonal venting kind of post, y'all can ignore it if you want
I decided to quiet quit my job and start looking for something else. The pay scale for my school only gives me a 2k raise each year, which means that in 4-5 years I'm going to be in my late thirties making lower middle class income for Cali. The new curriculum they're installing is ass too.
I'll hang around for a while longer because I'm waiting on a few things to happen first, but my wife is looking at making 150k come July doing post-production, so tbh I don't need the sir yes sir come late summer. I can adjunct teach to cover some of what will be lost and have more free time.
The main thing for me is that I'm wrapping up a full color, completely inked graphic novel with my illustrator in the next few months and someone needs to sell it. That takes time and dedication. I'm not about to waste my best years when I can spend them making my dreams come true. Time is too valuable to spend it being afraid of debt or sunk cost.
It's all pretty intimidating but I feel a lot better being real about what I really need to be happy.
Good for you for getting out and not peddling s*** you're given.
Idk what your credentials/education is, but i wonder if looking for mid-high proced private tutoring would be worthwhile in your area

Are you aware that the film is a satire of 80’s excess and is a doubled down response to the initial criticisms levied at Dressed to Kill. His interests are still his own, but the film isn’t played as straight as you’re treating it. I wonder how you’d be able to evaluate an art p*** film from the 70’s or is anything in this ballpark just inherently misogynistic to you. Your issues seem to be in how he writes and portrays women as if they’re meant to be realistic reflections of them. There’s an entire sequence that is a literal music video. The whole thing leans into a campy artifice.

This isn’t a wild opinion. It’s often considered his best by plenty of people for being a perfect distillation of his style and interests. It’s not like it’s some dud in his filmography. I mean it’s on the Criterion Channel as one of the best examples of an erotic thriller.
