Not even the spaceship kamikaze scene?

The absolute silence in my theater when that happened broken by a little kid near me saying "whoa"

@Bizzle The Crossing is breathtaking. read 150 pages yesterday cuz i just couldn’t put it down

i’m actually enjoying how different this one is from Pretty Horses. a little more traditionally action oriented so far, and how it’s only really focusing and fleshing out Billy’s character as of yet.

excited to see where the second half goes

Yeah that one is a masterpiece, the whole sequence with the wolf at the start is one of the most beautiful things I've ever read. Rest of it is great as well. How are you coping with the Spanish lol? I remember there being quite a lot in it

I was that little kid at our screening and it was more of a "pshwhaoooowheeew" on account of all the shrooms

My brain was already making my lips move before I realized everything had gone silent

Not as artful as some Cormac probably but I've been crushing this Conqueror series about the Mongolians by Conn Iggulden on my Kindle this trip

i’m ngl, i can understand the gist of what they’re saying probably half the time, and the other half i either hope he paraphrases it in English in the passage directly after the dialogue, or just keep on trucking and use context clues it helps that a lot of the words they use are the same cuz they’re usually talking about the same handful of s***: places, animals, people, food, etc. lol

also peeped Throne of Blood last night, only my second Kurosawa after Rashomon. it was cool, wasn’t quite as impressive as Rashomon tho.

that last 20 minutes was very dope, and i feel like the final death scene is gunna stick with me for a while.

watching Yojimbo rn, so far i’m enjoying it more than either of the others

    High & Low, Seven Samurai,

I bought The Road for my mom a while back and the next time she saw me she was like

I usually buy her books for her birthday since she loves to read and I always get her f***ed up depressing ones. She really likes Natsuo Kirino. Thought Murakami was boring tho.

He read it before bed every night and apparently it didn't bother him. If my mom read it she would pass out during the cellar scene.

It's his third best I think behind BM and Suttree. The Road is really good too but it doesn't have the same wild, unwieldy feel as those other ones. His style is a lot more parred back there as well. Probably why it sold so well

When I first started seeing my girlfriend and said he was my favourite writer she said she'd read one of his books so I recommended The Road. She was horrified

  • Jul 28, 2023

It's better than recommending Child of God or Outer Dark I guess

yeah Yojimbo was awesome. felt a bit long, though. i think it could’ve benefited from a ~95 minute runtime tbh
