Some of the craziest traffic I ever saw was in Mexico where everybody's absolutely zooming and aggressive and chaotic

Some of the weirdest traffic I ever saw was Paris where it's several lanes bumper to bumper absolutely slammed with cars inches apart, but everybodys just chill af and it slowly works itself out

India traffic is wild, heard it’s not surprising to see someone take their horse on the highway

Anyone heard that new album Cartwheel by Hotline TNT? Most frustrating record I’ve heard all year. Every song could be great but it’s mixed so poorly. Like it could be a great indie rock record, but it’s like they handed it to a producer and told them to give it the shoegaze treatment. Anything that could grab you is drowned out artificially.

I don't really listen to them much any more but their best tracks perfectly bridge the gap between 70s big star-esque power pop and britpop, so I find it mad that you of all people hate them so much

that's wild lol. good for him. I'm not familiar enough with Lucki to see the connection but he definitely sounds like a KTT user. was listening to Loveless the other day thinking how it really still is a top 5 album oat after all these years of playing it to death.

My mom is trying to convince me to teach film for fun on the side. Don't really have any reason too since I have a job but could be interesting.

Tbh I think film especially world cinema is the one single subject I could do pretty well as a teacher. But it seems stressful depending on who you're teaching.

My dad is turning 72 in a couple days and half retired but he still teaches at medical school and teaches Adveita/Sanskrit on the side at his philosophy school. He's been doing that for like 30-40 years now. Is teaching worth it/fulfilling? Or would it be a waste of time...?

I like teaching because I'm an extrovert and being around 150 students a week doesn't wear me out. All the funny bullshit that happens over the course of a week makes the drudgery of grading and professional development worthwhile for me.

We're doing essay workshops this week and they're pretty loose and improvisational. I just rely on what I know and work with the kids one on one to make sure they're on track and writing about something that interests them. I get to joke around and make them feel like their thoughts matter. Rapport has improved a lot lately.

One of my students, a male student, told me today that he'd cry if I ever got fired That's priceless.

honestly being 'the cool english teacher' in high school can have a lot more importance than people realize. i had a really good one senior year who taught me things that stuck with me even though i didnt realize at the time. where i could barely even name other teachers at this point

Yeah. English is the only subject we offer that's required for all four years of high school, the reason being that it's so broadly applicable to other subjects. It utilizes all forms of communication on some level and lays the foundation for excelling in other disciplines.

I have a lot of students who don't speak English at home and I can only imagine how tough it would be for them to connect with the English speakers around them if they had a terrible teacher. In that they help you with communication, language teachers can be very important for building an identity and confidence.

Me, I just like teaching it because there's a lot of freedom with grading and curricula.

Nah I think I’m right. It’s trying to sound like something it doesn’t understand which in turn makes it fail at what it actually does well. In a sea of wannabe shoegaze albums it’ll be quickly forgotten.

The vocalist sounds like he’s just moaning a vague melody he came up with in the shower and then just drenched it in hazy instrumentation and loud drums. Maybe the do it all yourself approach wasn’t the right move.
