You ever read any Tobias Wolff? He was good friends with Raymond Carver back when they both taught at my alma mater. Been meaning to finish This Boys Life. But here's one of my favorite short stories by him. One of the best shorts ever and definitely worth the quick read.

Then Pancho Villa came to town
hanged the mayor
and summoned the old and infirm
Count Vronsky to supper.
Pancho introduced his new girl friend,
along with her husband in his white apron,
then asked the Count to tell him
about his unhappy exile in Mexico.
Later, the talk was of women and horses.
Both were experts.
The girl friend giggled
and fussed with the pearl buttons
on Pancho’s shirt until,
promptly at midnight, Pancho went to sleep
with his head on the table.
The husband crossed himself
and left the house holding his boots
without so much as a sign
to his wife or Vronsky.
That anonymous husband, barefooted,
humiliated, trying to save his life, he
is the hero of this poem."

First couple hours are great but it lost me eventually. Worth a look for the snowball fight at the beginning tbh.

This was solid, I can appreciate the lyrical prowess of some authors but love when something simple can say so much

glad you liked it. imo Raymond Carvers "Cathedral" is the best example of powerful storytelling through the simplest prose possible. (seriously it's like middle school level vocabulary)

Idk considering the genre bending he was doing in Outkast I could easily see him doing a funk, r&b or even rock album. He doesn't have to f***ing rap.

How long has he been playing this assortment of flutes anyway?
