Post-808s misogyny on Kanye albums doesn't gross you out? You are nitpicking and biased
There are several Kanye songs I despise so this post didn't make any sense
Ye Vs. The People had a wicked Four Tops sample but I'm still never gonna listen to it again
It’s kind of ironic this conversation started with me being like “selective moral reductiveness around specific material in art is dumb” and ever since it’s been a bunch of whataboutism.
You're never gonna let me hate several movies for their nasty depiction of rape lol

you didn't find that boundary pushing to be...refreshing?
im kidding fidelio plz dont kill me
I definitely like these more than most of what Earl’s been doing, but this whole style just kinda feels too brief and in a way inconsequential. There’s no like weight to any of it. My favorite of these is the last one cause there’s no rapping on it. It’s just a beautiful little atmospheric sample based instrumental. I feel like with a lot of this stuff I’m in and out before I’m allowed to care.

Fair enough
my main point was just the double standard of deciding what was real or not. You've explained yourself

I’m not going to act like rape scenes don’t bother me. The one in Irreversible made me cry. I do however believe in the west that we elevate sexual violence above other kinds of violence to a degree that is ultimately really counter productive, but that’s a complicated conversation for another day.

saying most misogyny in rap isn't real was probably too far on my part but if you grew up listening to rap you just dont hear it that way. not if you had decent role models in real life anyway.

I get what you mean. For me it’s the type of album that benefits from a front to back listen, just puts you in a certain mood.

there are ways to imply it, or just show a little that are as effective as anything you would possibly need. Irreversible is so mean spirited just make me want to kick the s*** out of that greasy bald French f*** if I ever see him. I know you dont believe violence is ever the answer but those European edgelords just reek too heavily of that nerd pheromone

Misogynist cop rap
Bro I remember the first time I saw Reno 911 I thought it was real
just ordered Rock Bottom and Here Come The Warm Jets vinyl with an xmas gift card my mum gave me
@HeyFella you reminded me I needed RB badly

Or they just have a fundamentally different conception about these kinds of things that you haven’t managed to get on the wavelength of.

I dont want any of that wavelength but youre right
That’s fair
Lars Von Trier literally on Twitter asking for any woman to be his muse and girlfriend
never seen anybody down so bad

Not to be that guy, but he strikes me as someone “neuro-divergent”. I feel bad. He has a million phobias and poor social skills, but that feeds into his art and for me makes it more interesting. Breaking The Waves is a top 10 all time film for me.

To be fair he hasn't made anything as horrible Gaspar has. I shouldn't lump them in together but I get a similar vibe.

Well both of them plus Nicolas Winding Refn and Harmony Korine are in The League of Extraordinary Provocateurs.

Refn is something else
I can't really describe it but his ridiculously cool and artful depiction the most brutal aspects of society are fkn amazing.
Not crazy about recent Korine but Gummo is some kind of masterpiece so I'll always have a soft spot of that weirdo.
Tarantino has a greasier aura than either of them.
maximeproulx is the biggest hater. Half of his Letterboxd logs are 1/2 a star. Gonna be honest and say I can’t remember what his name was on here.
