My grandparents would put them together, glue them, then put them on the wall in a frame

They seem interesting but idk I feel like I’d get bored halfway through.

    That commitment there haha

Hello "every conversation and sentence in here has to be meaningful" Fidelio.
Bioshock 2 really does just suck

    Sounds like some galaxycore

Art objectively doesn’t age. It’s a fundamentally dumb framework to apply to something. It just doesn’t make any sense. It’s not an opinion. The art didn’t age. You have aged by acquiring a new set of standards that you’re retroactively applying. That’s an option on your part.

Well you seem to pretty damn right about everything don't you? Why get mad at people for trying to discuss something if you tell them they're objectively wrong? An idea instilled into a piece of art can absolutely 'age' (this didn't necessarily make it bad which you are probably right about). Maybe your want me to word it differently, but at the time of Bioshock's release, it was seen as groundbreaking, and in my opinion, the mechanics (including how to switch and operate your weapons) are a product of its time.

No the artist is meant to tinker, not the person taking in the art. Also if you just reduce games to a set of mechanics then it’s just a car at best or a toy at worst.

So you're the determiner of tinkering? I think art can be tinkered with and video games have become the gold standard of interactive art in other mediums, one of the best examples of this was everybody making their own versions and masterings and versions of TLOP at the time of its release and in between edits. Kanye editing and releasing multiple versions has allowed people to 'tinker' with his work and he even listened to people when they complained about certain things (ima fix Wolves) you're being extremely stubborn and ignorant to the versatility of art as a whole. Maybe we're not 'tinkering" with art like films or TV, but every medium is different. You have tunnel vision on

It’s also funny to use Mario Odyssey as an example of “gameplay is king” because the refreshing thing about that game was the way it switches things up from the typical Mario format and contextualized the adventure in a new way. If it was just a bunch of grey levels with no interesting art direction or context for why you’re there—then no matter how well designed the platforming was…it would suck.

I agree and I made a point to express that levels and everything surrounding it was important. I was mostly talking about the story although they did find a way to sightly change it up a bit

  • If art doesn't age then why do they have to upkeep old Renaissance era paintings

Also theres probably a bunch of Marina Abramovichs out there doing interactive weirdo modern art s***. Art can be alive and fluid, doesn't have to be static and completely intentional.

I also think sampling, DJing, or even just interpolating other artists is a form of "tinkering" with art.

  • Are covers not a form of tinkering? Taking an established piece of music and putting your own spin on it / musically shifting it?

Damn RIP to The Dixie Chick who was killed in a car crash, never listened but I remember them from back in the day.

Those accident deaths always feel weird to me, like it could have been avoided by just a minute difference. Guess that could be applied to a lot of things but such is life
