Randomly decided to listen to it on my speakers today just to see the difference and it's definitely the most I've enjoyed it.

First off, I always thought the production was crisp, but man do my speakers give it the proper listening experience. I used to dis a song like "Selah" (the drums!!!) or "On God" but Pierre's production shines incredibly on that. I still have gripes, and some songs still feel a bit underdeveloped (I wish "Closed on Sunday" had some sort of choral climax at the end but the song is still pretty eerie overall (hijacked by Chic-Fil-A cringe) and "Follow God" still has that annoying clipping sound, and overall stands out like a sore thumb musically on the album). Kanye's lyrics are pretty surface level worship at some points ("Water", but that brisk production is pure heaven), but it's a pretty emotional album overall and the simple lyrics are probably for the better. It's clear that Kanye was making this during a rough patch. There's genuine pain in his voice in songs like "Selah", "Closed on Sunday", and especially "God Is" (the clear standout that I used to dismiss). I think the struggles Ye was facing mentally with the sudden re-birth to Christ had a clash of forces on this album and Ye paints this struggle with not being fully accepted for this change on "Hands On" (I've always liked this one). "Use This Gospel" still sucks ass and no Clipse reunion or s***ty Kenny G solo can change my opinion on that. It's also short and sweet and a million more times genuine feeling than 2018's ye (garbage). It's by no means in the tier of his classics or near-classics, but it's an interesting, slightly bizarre and unique (and amazingly produced) addition to his catalog.

Would probably change my rating from like a 4.5 to a 5.5-6.

Use This Gospel is my favorite song on that record. I figured everyone at least enjoyed that one. That Kenny G solo rules.

Yeah the album held up surprisingly well. Almost shocked how many young people love it.
