Maybe my favorite record he’s done since Life of Pablo. A track titled something like Problematic could have gone so wrong, but it turned out beautiful. The horns on that sound like they’re from In The Aeroplane Over The Sea. The whole album for the most part is pretty dark, but there’s a melancholy to it at times.

I'm listening to Vultures and have zero interest in talking to stans in Ye sxn about it so I'll just stay here

So far...not a lot of wow moments and some cringe lyrics but it's a little better than I expected.

It’s hard for me to find any of the lyrics too cringe because of how self aware and at times self deprecating they are. The last track is the only one I kind of felt any real “cringe” towards, but at the same time there was this cheeky sense of him being like “thanks for listening, f*** you” that softened those feelings. It almost felt like an after credits scene.

Feels like what he was aiming to do thematically with Donda 2, yet a way more successful attempt

At the very least it's pretty easily his best since TLOP. I've grown pretty cold on Donda outside of a handful or so of the tracks. And obviously it's better than the 2 other ones (ye , jik) but that's without saying

Yo you dig Michael Haneke ? I haven't seen his films in a real minute but I remember The White Ribbon feeling almost monolithic with dread but masterfully crafted in beautiful b&w

He's definitely trolling hard with that last track. And in general, he sounds way better in here than the last few records. Some sort of resurrection of inspiration and energy. Maybe his new muse is the reason

The best moments on Donda are so much better than what's on here. Life of the Party, Believe What I Say, Hurricane, Off the Grid, Come to Life, Moon, etc. are late career standouts and there's nothing that good on Vultures.

Burn is great but randomly ends before it gets going, Good and Beg Forgiveness are solid but they sound like Donda leftovers that don't fit here at all. I think Keys to My Life is really strong but I wish 808s Kanye was singing it because this Kanye just sounds hollowed out and unlikable.

Idk man, I don't get the hype. It's decent but lower mid tier at best for Kanye. Not even close to TLOP, which had so much more color and personality.

Only song you listed from DONDA that I agree on is Come to Life. LOTP doesn't count, BWIS doesn't even fit properly on Donda, Off the Gris is overrated, and Hurricane and Moon are pretty lowkey and uninspiring. Donda is also bloated beyond belief.

I actually agree with him that those are really high highs, but they’re placed on a record filled with fluff that doesn’t have a really coherent identity or well structured flow. This shines because despite it not having as big of highs—there’s nothing on it that pulls you out of it and the highs that it does have match the quality of those tracks (even if there’s not as many).

My favorites from DONDA are Come to Life, Jesus Lord, Lord I Need You, 24, Pure Souls and Heaven and Hell. Really strong second half of that record but yeah it's just a massive amount of fat that needed trimming. I stand by my Off the Grid and Hurricane stance

There's a disturbing and truly degenerate energy on Vultures that just really pulls me in.

I disagree that Donda lacks an identity. It has a really cold, moody, dour vibe for the most part that was, at the time, pretty unique in his catalogue. The gospel sound wasn't unique after JIK but it's blended well. The clips from his mother tie the album together thematically and connect with his contrite tone throughout the album. Donda Deluxe actually added a lot to the album thematically, even though it made the sequencing worse.

There are outliers and some of them suck. Remote Control and Ok Ok are clearly album fillers. But at least the fun songs on Donda are actually fun musically, whereas the fun songs on Vultures sound like moody Donda songs but with stupid jokes.

Also it's super early. Again, my Donda opinion has def changed a lot since it came out. Who knows what I'll think of Vultures in 3 years but for now I think it's great
